Love how they all share and love how they get excited.
We made rice krispie treats to send to Iraq for son in law to be --- he was the hit of his troop this week :-) Made a batch and sent to our Nick in Hawaii with instructions to share with his division...it's the first care package I have sent to him in Hawaii --------had to give him instructions!!! LOL

Yes, I suspect he will be getting a roommate soon. Bet you are counting down the days until his standdown begins.

Safe travels Cathy --- we are all happy for your PIR and congrats to your new Sailor!

Dale - sorry I tend to copy and paste complete articles with tag lines/bylines etc. Staff report in this particular case, this is an article that was written by the Navy Times Staff.

Alli -- has Gavin started his actual classes yet or will that be after the holidays?

I know all the troops will love what ever your hearts and pocket books can spare. We use the flat rate boxes to ship to Iraq, they are small and still fairly costly if you are shipping on a regular basis so I'm happy to have another outlet for making our troops a little happier for the holidays.

There will be both celebrations and frustrations this week....

Active petty officer quotas released

Staff report
Posted : Tuesday Dec 1, 2009 19:49:08 EST

The quotas for fall active-duty petty officer advancements are here.

The chart shows increased opportunity to make petty officer first class, with chances rising from 9.59 percent last cycle to 11.09 percent this fall.

Opportunity to make E-5 fell from 22 percent last cycle to 19.51 percent.

The largest swing was in opportunity to move up into the petty officer ranks, with the chance to make E-4 falling from 46.58 percent to 34.6 percent, meaning the likelihood of moving up is roughly one in three.

Navy officials expect the petty officer selection list to be released later this week. Check back with navytimes.com to see if you made rate.

So much to celebrate in this group! Congrats Donna to your daughter on her engagement, I bet it will be a beautiful service in the academy chapel. Does your family fight over the Army-Navy game?!!! You certainly have become a military family :-)

Christmas in San Diego will be beautiful Dona!

Cathy - what a wonderful achievement for your son! Congrats to him.

All politics aside --- I received this email from Congressman Tom Price who represents my district and he has offices in Marietta and Canton. He is doing a collection for our troops and thought it might be a great way to support our military and not have to pay for the postage! Here's the details:

Send Holiday Cheer To Our Troops
Traveling to Afghanistan last week, I witnessed first-hand the incredible tasks performed by our troops everyday to protect our freedoms. These men and women spend months at a time in foreign lands away from family and friends.

So during this holiday season, you can make this time a little bit more joyful. That’s why, once again, our office will be collecting and delivering Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday cards for our men and women at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the Atlanta VA Hospital, as well as those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is a wonderful opportunity to express your thanks to the troops so bring in a card(s) in an unsealed envelope to one of our district offices.

And since many of our troops go without some of the basic comforts of home, you can also donate any of the following supplies that we will deliver on behalf of the Sixth District of Georgia:

Instant coffee, bug spray, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, chap stick, Vaseline, socks, playing cards, dryer sheets, Febreeze, gum, hard candy, earplugs, blister band-aids, Icy/Hot, foot powder, athlete’s foot spray, eye drops, throat lozenges, Rolaids, Tums, beef jerky, Power Bars, granola bars, batteries, duct tape, pre-stamped envelopes, paper, and any magazines, books, newspapers or DVDs.

Jean - always nice to see you pop in. That's a great opportunity for your sailor to go TAD to another ship especially to help it get ready for duty again. SanDiego is so beautiful --- I am sure he is enjoying it!

Happy Tuesday to everyone.

Adamsmom, your Christmas will be even more special with a sailor in the house! Are you going to GL for the PIR? What rate is your son heading to?
