Welcome Pooky! It's all an adventure!!!

So glad that Hawaii is a free phone call now on our phone plan. Got to speak to our sailor twice yesterday - he sounds fairly stressed. He took the E5 test and was told he needed a copy of his most recent eval to attach to his test...he's not been on the ship very long and their records are stored in another building and it was closed and we had a copy in our safe deposit box at the bank but it was after 5 pm when he called but low and behold............mom dear remembered that she made a copy of that glowing eval to put in his scrapbook!!! This eval spells out he was honor grad for his class :-) we were able to scan it and email it to him ...just in time!

So your lesson today ladies is.........keep copies of critical paperwork! When he took his petty officer class, the paperwork was not in his personal jacket but we were able to fax our copy to his school. This has happened to so many sailors. We also keep a copy of his orders at home, you might need them for the phone company, insurance, etc.

Wishing everyone well on this very solemn day.

Oh yea!! April...although brief I know how much better you feel just getting that call! Next will be the "box", then you will want a letter then a phone call...it's never ending!!! Boot camp makes us very greedy moms!!!

Hey Missy!!!
Is it my imagination or does it get harder to say good bye each time they move on? Steve went to C school at DamNeck and I was there in April but not sure how much I...remembered! I suspect you and Sylvester will have a good time no matter how much the place changed! I can tell you this - the Navy Lodge in Norfolk is all NEW and is a very nice place to stay just down the street from the base.

Have a good time in Norfolk and I'll catch up with you when you return!

Welcome to our newest GA members!!!

navmom2 - did you get your phone call from GL? I know we have a recruit graduating from boot camp in September and some in October but not sure of any that have left this week. Suspect yours will make PIR before Thanksgiving (?)

Hi all,
Hope all of our GA families are doing great. I know we have some graduations and PIRs coming up soon to celebrate! Our son called from Hawaii last night and is taking the E5 test this morning :-) not looking to pass it on his first round but the experience will be good.

Good morning ladies! Daughter arrived home from college late last night and while she is playing sleeping beauty (sleeping in) I'm off to the airport to pick up her fiancee' ...........he is flying in from Fort Drum to surprise her this weekend. He leaves for Iraq next month so this maybe their last time together for awhile. sigh

No JoMo's Mom...they won't let him come home after boot camp. They usually are not allowed leave until after A school graduation. Some of the A schools have some fairly long "holds" right now so i do know a few sailors that were able to take leave after sitting at their A school for awhile waiting for classes to begin. Your son may go immediately to Pcola and wait for school to begin or they may keep them in GL for a bit and then send him on to Pcola but his communications will be much better when he graduates from boot camp.

Barbara J - sounds like a wonderful trip ahead for you! Enjoy that new camper. Nick is stationed on the USS Chung Hoon out of Pearl Harbor - sitting up in bed sounds like a bonus!!!

Hi GA Moms - hope everyone is well. Missy back from another proud moment in the life of a Navy Mom!!! Hope Jason enjoys his time at home.

Diane --- good luck getting your daughter all settled in. It was so much easier with our daughter this year as her lease is a 12 month lease and although she comes home for 6-8 weeks --- we don't have to move furniture or pack much more than a suitcase.

We've heard from Nick a couple of times - I think it is difficult with the six hour time difference but we do know that he has a top rack and my waffles are better than the ship!!!
