Hi all, we are off to Hilton Head Island for some sun and fun with our family while we still have both of the kids home! So I will be the nice and tan when you see me at the picnic on the 22nd!! LOL

Lots of new members joining us recently so a big welcome to all. I will not be on line until we return from HHI, wishing everyone a great week!

Construction in and around GL has been going on for years!

Darlene, OPSEC can be confusing. We can share the name of our sailor's ship/sub just not specifics as to where they are at while on deployment or when they are returning or leaving their homeport.

Posting a prayer request like Margie did for the USS Russell is fine but saying the USS Russell left at 9am this morning and will be in Mayport on Thursday is a no no. Does that help some??

Mary,we drove it last weekend-with a 2-yr. old and her 11-month old sister. They were great, though! It took us 16 hrs. coming back. We live just west of Atlanta. We left on Wed. at 1:00 PM and drove until just north of Indianapolis-Lafayette-about 1:00 AM to spend the night. We left the next morning at 7:00 and arrived at Great Lakes around 10:00AM. the construction was the worst I have ever seen-and they say 285 is one of the most dangerous in the country! Take a jacket if they predict cool temperatures and/or rain. Enjoy it and drive safely.

Jean - so very happy for you! I know this was a long deployment. Hope he enjoys every minute of his leave and please bring those photos next time we get together...we would love to see them too.

Good morning ladies! Enjoying having our sailor home although it was a nightmare waiting for him on Friday to arrive. Flight that was supposed to get in at 6:30 pm ...ended up being after 1 am. Bad weather somewhere. He is at his recruiter's office in Kennesaw this morning for RAP duty, he wanted to get it done early as we are heading to HHI on Saturday for a week.

Reminder that we have the picnic on Saturday, August 22nd in Marietta. Details are in the Events for that day...we had a pretty good turnout when we did Savannah in March so please post those details and perhaps carpooling will be a great option. I would stay away from Labor Day if possible - enough holiday traffic on the roads!!

Good morning ladies - TGIF!

Marsher, the biggest problem on subs is they have no space but I understand they are great about sharing with their shipmates. Sometimes I think it doesn't matter so much what's in the box - it's the fact they got a box. You can get free flatrate boxes at the post office or by going to usps.com

Jean, it seems like your son has been gone forever and I'm not even his mom!!! That will be one sweet homecoming! Will he be here for the picnic? I know a couple of our other sailors will be attending - we'd love to meet him as well.

Special day for us...our sailor is graduating NOW from C school and will be home tonight! Must go make him peanut butter cookies!!!

Nice to meet you Marsha, and I too have not been around for a bit. I'm also interested what to send to our son when he goes on his first deployment this fall on an aircraft carrier. I'll be interested in ideas for him, too!
