Hi Pam,

I also had a daughter that I lost to cancer and she would have been 21 this coming May. She was 15 when she passed away from cancer. So our children are very close in age.

lisaladybug - Welcome to Navy for Moms!!  I took a peek at your page and had to laugh because I also have a four year old daughter and our son that's in the Navy is 21!  I also have a 20 year old son.  Since your son will be leaving for bootcamp in June you should take a look at the bootcamp mom's group.  Lots of good information there.  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms  And a group for those leaving in June.  Try http://www.navyformoms.com/group/leavinforbootcampinjune

My son has been in 11 months and is now stationed in Italy and is enjoying the Navy!

Dittto, ditto, ditto VIckimed's message.  My hubby was active duty Navy for over 10 years.  Our home of record was Michigan but we were stationed in California for a good part of that time.  I probably don't need to tell you how expensive tags and insurance was in CA...we kept our home of record as MI.   Our daughter is married to a soldier and lives in NY...pricey there too, they are keeping their home of record in FL where his parents live.  Our son is stationed in Hawaii, pricey there too but because he bought his Jeep there and the laws are different - he is paying the big bill in HI but having his insurance with USAA is the way to go!

thanks vickimed!  he has looked into usaa and you are correct, they are the cheapest quote he has found.  thank you very much for the info. i am hoping he holds off a little longer on getting a car, but i guess it is hard to not have transportation and to have to depend on others for a ride. anyway, he is shopping : )

CC0727,  My husband retired from the Army. We had 4 tours here in Ga. 2 at Benning, 1 in Savannah and 1 here in Atl at Ft.McPherson. No matter where we were stationed we always kept our home of record in Florida. My in-laws lived there so we had an address. Florida does not have a state income tax. So he had a Florida drivers license. I would have a Ga lic. or a lic. of the state we lived in. But we always had a car tag of the state that we lived in. Military doesn't pay the added tax on the car tags. That is normally for schools in the county and the govt pays money to the school your child goes to. That is why at the beginning of the school year the school will make military members fill out a form. There are some other states that do not have state income also.  Another thing for you son is the insurance company. I can not say enough good things about USAA. With your son in the military he qualifies to join. They have been rated number 1 in Forbes magazine. Excellent service and so much cheaper than the other leaders. I hope some of this info helps. First thing we did when Chris went in was to sent him up with USAA.

thanks for all the comfort and encouragement. This site is so informative and it has been a blessing to me. It was a great help to connect with people who knew what to say at any time.

Hello. It is official now. My son, Brandon, was released from the navy last week. He left the nuclear program at Goose Creek, SC. He moved to north Georgia and seems to be content. Anyway I don't know how to close this account since I am no longer a Navy mom.

I ask for God to bless all of you and your families forever and always.

Kay
