I am not a mom... I'm a wife.. But my husband is going to school in CT and he received his orders to King's Bay in January. We CANNOT wait (we are from FL and that is where our family is)! My husband is going to be on the USS Wyoming Blue, as an MM.

Can anyone give me any information, tips, etc?
Thanks :)

Cindy you are not far from some of us. I live in Acworth.Getting the box is filled with mixed emotions. They haven't been gone long and now you have this box with all their stuff. I remember I cried for a bit. But then you remember the reasons they joined in the first place and all the things they have ahead of them and how proud you are of them takes over. Eight weeks right now seems long but it will pass quickly. You should have your letter with in a week. It will have their address and PIR Date. Some suggestions for hotels and general info for you. They get to write about 3-4 lines at the bottom. They will call you probably 2-3 times while at BC. The third call is the one you live for. Its the "I'm a sailor" call. Most of the time Thursdays become letter days.Just remember we are here for you and any questions you may have.

Cindy...waiting, it's what Navy Moms do best! It took nine days to get our son's address when he was in boot camp, everyone else seemed to get it so much sooner.

You can call your recruiter, once your son has gone thru processing their address is entered into the computer and the recruiter has access to it. In the meantime, go ahead and start writing letters so they are good to go when you get the address.

Pam -- it's good your son has a choice. We know a few Marines and they love their "docs"

Hoping everyone is okay from the weather yesterday, Irene lives in the area where the tornado hit but her home is okay and I'm hoping all of our other families are as well.

I have learned so much about being a Corpsman and how the Corpsmen are the medical support for the Marine's that my head spins sometimes!! But Jamie has two weeks left of his training and he is ready to get out of dodge!! He has a whole new respect for what the Marines accomplish and the sacrafices that each of them makes. He has chosen (at least at this time) not to be attached to a Marine unit although the Navy can change that at anytime.

BTW - I live in Conyers and work in Atlanta.

Welcome to our new members, so glad that you are joining us. Pam, you must be a strong mom to let your son train with the Marines :-)

Sailordawgmom --- good thing turkey is good for us!! How wonderful that Florence was able to join you for dinner.

Been thinking of you Kathy, hope all is well for you and all of our sailors with the USS George Washington group.

Congratulations to your son Mary on making E5 - what an accomplishment.

Cindy and Suzanh - welcome to the Navy!! My son PIR'd on June 4, 2010 and then went through A School at Great Lakes. He is now a Corpsman going through more training at Camp Pendleton with the Marines.
