So my fiance is at basic right now and he graduates on July 3rd which as we all know is the day before 4th of July. So my question is will he have the 4th off? And if he doesn't he is going to school in Pensecola, FL for an Aviations Boatswain Mate, would he start school on Monday and that starts his 36 days of school or does it start when he leaves? I am so confused about this as we are going to be getting married on his leave and I want to make sure that I have the right date for everything?

I'm not too sure about the 4th of July holiday will affect when he will leave Great Lakes to go to his A school so maybe someone else will have better answers for you BUT I can tell you that when he gets to A school he will have a week of indoc that's not counted in the class time, then he can be on hold for anywhere from a few days to a couple of months before he actually starts classes. He may start class immediately but most likely he will not. He will have enter information for you once he's gotten through indoc. At this stage it is too early to plan anything.
It is entirely possible he will fly out the next day, or Friday, but no one will know this early.

A school always takes longer than the number of weeks of seat time. There are holds, and often other training which needs to be factored in. They can be on hold before and after school.

Do NOT set a wedding date or put down any deposits this early. Your wedding plans must stay flexible.

On my phone, so anyone else want to explain accompanied orders and A school courthouse weddings?

If you wait to get married until after he ends "A" School and is on leave before his first command...1) you will not be on his orders so the Navy will not pay to move you and 2) he could have orders overseas which you can NOT move there to be with him.

If you are going to get married anyways go to his "A" School and do a court house wedding...just make sure he does the required paper work to get married

We were going to do a small wedding when he got back and on his leave since he would only be in school for like a month and i counted the days from when he graduates until his school is over and thats like the middle of august so I was going to plan to do something then like a small reception and of course get married but now I am on the fence of what to do I mean I would like to be on his orders because I know he is single and when they station you they look at that so, I guess what I am asking is would the wedding at a court house while he is school be the best option and then have a small reception when he is home on leave?

With a school that short, no. He needs to be married for about four weeks before orders are issued... you just don't have time. He should ask during in doc, talk to his COC. It might work, but he must ask.

Also, schools and orders always take longer than you expect. It gets frustrating.

Yea so what we were told is not what it is at all. :( so now I am wondering if we should just get married when he graduates on Wednesday? Ugh this is so frustrating. But would a school that is only 35 calendar days really be delayed for like 2 weeks to 2 months? And when he graduates basic will he know when he is supposed to start school?

He won't know his start date until he gets to the school command, and even then, he might not know right away.

Yes, his school could easily become a couple months.

There is a possibility he can come out of boot camp with orders in hand, the surface (ship) boatswain mates often do.

Your best plan is to be as flexible as possible, to find out as many scenarios as you can, and have half a dozen plans.
His school could easily be delayed...unfortunately. They are not allowed to get married while on liberty after graduation. He must fill out a chit (request form) in order to get married. If you all move quickly, you may be able to make it work. He would need to fill out his chit as soon as he gets to A-school. My husband was required to take classes and a week later we were allowed to get married (we waited longer than that but the process took about a week). His 35 days of A-school training does not include holds or the first week of Indoc. If you simply want to go ahead and get married and be on his orders, you coukd have a court wedding and might be okay, but if you are trying to plan a wedding/reception for a certain date, you might be disappointed.
What do you mean he could come out of basic with orders in hand? I am so new to this that most of this stuff doesn't even make sense to me and I am looking at getting married when he graduates since it will be on a Wednesday? But I'm just worried that we won't be able to get married in a timely fashion. And what makes me even more mad is that his recruiter told us to not get married before he goes to basic which I wish we did now so I wouldn't have to worry about this :( what other options can you suggest that i do?

With short schools, orders in hand are not unheard of.  And you can't get married when he graduates, they specifically sign a page 13 saying they won't disobey the PIR rules.  Getting married that weekend is one of those rules.

Yeah, recruiters don't like to do the marriage paperwork.

First take a deep breath.  This will work out.  Just parts of it won't be fun.

1. Don't set a wedding date.  The Navy never makes that easy.  Wedding plans should be small scale and flexible.  Many couples have a tiny ceremony, then the big reception later, even a year or two later.  I know this is painful, but you have to be realistic.

2.  If he has orders out of boot camp, you will be moving yourself if he's stationed in the US.  That is not impossible, but you will pay out of pocket.  He can have a small household goods shipment as a single sailor, but will need to ask Personal Property about that once he has orders.

3. If he does not have orders, consider flying down to Fl and marrying at the courthouse.  Because he has a short school, you both will need to be on top of the procedure.  There are many new wives who have done this on here, ask around for details.

4. Stick with your original plan, have the wedding at home, pay for your move anyway.

5. Hope like hell he doesn't get sent overseas, even if married, you couldn't go anyway.  BUT that doesn't mean all is lost.  You will live apart for a couple years, and he can take leave annually (probably).  My husband and I did that when we were first married. Saw each other 28 days in two years.  It sucked, but we've been married 26 years now.

You can do this. Learn all you can here and other forums.  Save up some money, even if you have to cut back on things like the wedding.  Start prepping for a move, toss, sell and donate as much of your stuff as you can.  Prepare your car for a long trip.

Hang in there!

What orders are you talking about? Like his orders to start "A" school? Yea I wish we would have gotten married before he sworn in but we didn't and now I am freaking out and worried that we wont have time to get married. And we are having a small intimate reception with family and some select friends but now I am going to put that on hold due to knowing all of this information. And we were going to get married by my aunt when he comes home on leave but who knows when that will be. And we figured we would be moving ourself so we prepared for that and got a PODS and thats how we have everything stored for right now. And when you say fly down to FL to get married if he does not have orders that kinda goes back to my what orders are you talking about? Like I said I have no one in the military and no one to really talk to about this.

She means he could graduate boot camp with orders to his first duty station, where he will be stationed after A school. Most Sailors get these orders in the middle to end of A school BUT if a school is that short they may assign them at the end of boot camp.

If he does NOT have his orders yet you need to get married ASAP, as soon as he is allowed to in A school to be on his orders.
