Hi Everyone,
My boyfriend and I have been together for 2.5 years. He has been at basic for about two weeks. I finally got a letter and sent out all of my letters to him. I felt like I was in good shape until today. I missed his call from basic. I didn't even know that they could call from there. He left me a message and I am retty torn up. In my message, he said that he was low on minutes. Is there a way for them to earn more minutes? Also, I am unsure if I can go to his graduation because I will be in college. Would I be able to visit him in A school? I have heard that he can have his phone, laptop, etc. and that is great, but seeing him would help me feel so much better. Is there any advice that someone can give me to help us stay strong?

If his A school is at Great lakes, the Gateway there is off limits to students, and so is the Navy Lodge.
Hey girl! I feel your pain, my husband went through basic in January and graduated at the end of February of this year. I missed one of his calls too and I felt soooo bad!! But don't worry, he will call again at some point just try to keep your phone on you at all times with the ringer on high if you can (except for classes of course, but if you have cool professors some might let you go outside in the hall for a few minutes to talk with him if you explain the situation). He can purchase calling cards at the NEX on base as long as he has a debit card or some form of cash with him, he will be getting paid during basic so don't worry. You can also send him calling cards if you like, it's up to you. My advice is to write a letter a day or every other day! Even if he can only send one or a couple letters a week, it always made me feel better to write down how my day went so I felt like we didn't lose touch. Also send photographs (as long as they're appropriate lol), my husband said it was nice to get pictures of things like our apartment and our wedding and pets to make him feel like he wasn't so far from home.
You will definitely be able to visit him in A school. I don't know as many of the rules for Great Lakes or the other A schools, but I know for Pensacola once they have reached phase 3 (only takes a few weeks usually) they can see you when they aren't in class and they can spend the weekend out of the barracks, you'll just have to sign to be his liberty buddy. :) Some rates (jobs) have more free time than others it just depends. But hang in there girl and just try to stay positive for your boyfriend! I remember how hard it is when they are in bootcamp but it was so cool to see my husband transform and become an even better guy! Good luck to you guys! And if you need anything feel free to message me, my name is Raquel. :)
