Hi everyone,
So I'm new to this whole thing and I just need some words of advice. I've been together with the most wonderful man I've ever met for about 11 months now. He joined the Navy, went to bootcamp in February, and now he's stationed in Yokosuka (spelling?). He's been there since July 1. He seems to be doing exceptionally well. He gets homesick easily so he keeps busy always. I am able to talk to him 5-6 times a week via phone and Facebook. His birthday is this month and I already bought him his dream pair of Oakleys. I want to do something more for him, but i'm just not getting any good ideas yet. I want to show him that I really care and love for him because I do, and it's killing me how I can't be with him and spend time with him. Please help me out. I would really appreciate it! I could also use some advice on how to keep busy myself. I'm currently in school trying to finish my degree, but i'm only taking 15 credits, so I'm bored.

I can relate on the boredom thing. Its really nerve racking :P The only thing I know that helps is to work. I got a part time job to pass the time and keep my mind occupied while I wasn't in school. Or maybe start up a hobby. But I know how you feel. How long is he there for?
I really want to get a job! But my parents won't let me keep a car at my school. I just decided to take more credits next semester; that way I can graduate faster!
He's in Japan for a year and three months. But technically, he can come home whenever the admiral decides to go home.
Volunteer. There are so many places where you can help others. If you want it to be supporting the military, see if there's a veteran's home nearby, they always need an extra set of hands, or just someone to sit and chat with the vets. Give your time to other people and you'll never be bored.
I spent 12 years in Yokosuka, twice on my own orders, and twice on hubby's orders as a dependent wife. It has gotten expensive, but there's a ton of stuff to do. It gets cold in the winter, you might want to send him some black gloves and some longjohns and good socks. The NEX runs out.
This is great information. Thank you very much!
I would say get a job for sure.. Have a job? Get a second or volunteer! When my husband was in BC I was taking 18 hours and working two jobs both about 20-30 hours a week a piece. That will make you sleepy! lol also make sure you are having fun! I know sometimes so's dont want to have fun while their sailor is gone because they feel like they aren't being loyal because they are happy while they are gone! But it helps pass the time too. time flies when you are having fun :)
As far as what to get him, maybe get him something to think of you or remind him of good memories. I made my husband a photo album and I dont know how many times he would text me saying he was having a bad day and he looked at the album and it made him feel better because he thought of our good times together. I would say to buy him things that maybe he cant get in Japan like maybe a special care package of things that he misses from back home? Maybe like his favorite chips, favorite hot sauce? Maybe if you make some awesome homemade cookies send him some of those too! If you need any tips on how to ship baked goods just let me know I can give you some tips on that too! :) If you know any of his bunkmates maybe send them a package to decorate his rack or room (sorry dont know his living situation lol my husband is on a carrier so they had racks for their quarters! lol)
