My sailor proposed while he was home on leave! A few days later he left for a short deployment. Because of our situation, we will be getting married at his new duty station once he returns. Because he already has his orders set, even when we marry the Navy isn't going to move out stuff which is understandable.

My question is, what do you feel is the easiest and most cost effective way to move your stuff? The move is from Texas to Washington and even though i have considered it, it is not a drive i can make alone. My fiance won't be able to take leave once he comes home bc we have to come back home for a wedding and he wont have enough days so i pretty much have to do this move all on my own and i need to have it figured out by the time he comes home!

All advice is helpful!

Thank you ladies!

I would say start saving money now! (of course lol!) and start researching! there are so many ways to move these days! See if pods are cheaper or having your stuff moved for you, by uhaul. (I can tell you making the drive with a uhaul from the south to WA SUCKS!! I went from Oklahoma to WA and refused to drive a uhaul through those mountains! I think a pod might be easier in that sense. I would also check for places that have military discounts. He might have to set it all up though for that instance. or set it up in his name. I know there are different companies that have military discounts that are pods but not that company name. Also depends on how much furniture you have and where you are going. When I lived in Everett WA there was a furniture store that was a bankruptcy liquidator places and they had some really good deals. so depending on what all you have it might be cheaper to sell furniture and just take kitchen and clothes stuff and buy furniture there.

Thank you! Yea i get head aches just thinking about it. This was very useful though thanks!

you are welcome. I would suggest sitting down and writing all your options out, and seeing what is most cost effective. I had to figure all this stuff out in less than a week. We had a move paid for and then it got yanked and I was moving in a week. so all my old plans went out the window. luckily My dad got off work. we made the drive in two days. we stopped in the area of sheridan wy. Its about 15 hours from OKC. i found some storage for my stuff and packed up my car and drove. I know it seems stressful but you got some time to figure out what is best and what will be the least stressful.

Look through your stuff, what do you really have that can't be replaced?  Sell most of your stuff, new house new life, new stuff!

If people are buying gifts for you for your wedding, put a po box by him as the address to send gifts so they will be up there when you get there...or if he has a friend who you can use thier address you that to send gifts.

Regarding the drive...how else are you going to get your car there?  Keep in mind when you do move duty stationes next time, what if you end up in VA?   The USN will not ship vehicles so might as well start now on learning to be able to drive long distances.  IT isn't hard at all...just make sure you plan plenty of time and have your car checked out before you leave.

Do you have family or friends that can help you pack and organize things ? I was pregnant our last move and had no help and a whole house to move... But needless to say when you think you don't have help it has some way of showing up when you need it the most... Hang in there it will work out :)

Christi RoSe,

I'm not sure how many of my friends will help but it guess i will find out shortly!

lol

Thank you!
