First deployment can definitely be sooner than a year, and not all of the sailors get three days. Some are grad n go and leave within hours of gradation. Not to scare you, but just in case he would be grad and go, id hate for you to not have had any warning at all. The hardest part about the Navy is no two experiences are the same. You just never know. Just try to get all the info you can and learn extreme patience and flexibility. =) it does get alot easier though!
grad and go is an oudated term and NO sailor leaves Great Lakes with in hours of gradation.  Soonest they leave if their school is out of state is the next day
Wowza they change things fast! I guess it has been a year since Bret graduated. Thanks Angie :)
I think that they usually are put on hold at their A school location not Chicago they usually fly them out then hold them elsewhere. and just bc they make top in their class again doesnt always mean they pick where they go.
Mine's delployment was a few months after boot camp and a school, it just really depends on where they get put :( sorry maybe yours will be at least a year or more!
not all rates get a wish list :/ and even with the "wish list" and supposedly top 3 of the class get first pick thats not true, my husband was 2nd in his class didnt get anywhere close to his wish list and actually some kid bottom of his class got my hubby's first choice and the kid didnt even want it (it was Oklahoma our home state lol)

Sailors orders will be where the Needs of the Navy are....not where the Sailor wants.  If it happens to be the same, than they are lucky.

yea once we get all through our change of homeport and finally get it settled I will be one happy girl even if it wasnt our first choice my hubby's ship is getting drydocked for the rest of his 4 years. As long as he stays with the ship we pretty much have shore duty. just getting to that point is so stressful! I understand the whole needs of the Navy thing my husband on the other hand was very upset we got this instead. (It also would have made more sense money wise bc they only would have had to move us like mayb 15 minutes to whatever house we found in the area instead of over 20 hours away lol. but shrugs I am just a money girl always thinking of ways to save money) lol. and the other guy was single they wouldnt have had to move him anywhere lol

Only a few rates do the class standing pick of orders anymore.  Mostly not available.

LOL< even fleet sailors who are doing well can have their dream sheet ignored.  I had three choices coming out of SD as an E-6, and I was offered ... Diego Garcia, Diego Garcia and Diego Garcia.  Guess where I went?  The billet was "hot" and I was the right rate/paygrade to fill it ASAP.

lol yea I knew we would get put wherever the Navy wanted us...I think he was just so hopeful and then so sad he didnt get Oklahoma. Idk why that boy loves that state sooo much lol. :) I miss it tho now that I am in Washington.

umm I would say Diego Garcia. lol

Oh wow things in the navy are crazy im new to this, im kinda wrried cus i havent heard nothing frm yet..its alomost been a month i think imma go crazy

My boyfriend left almost 2 weeks ago and we don`t know when he graduates or anything yet. I`ve been hearing different stories about how much time you get to spend with them and what the rules are after the graduation before they leave to A-school..?
