I have a couple of questions about BAH. My husband is stationed in Sasebo, Japan. We got married after he got orders so I wasn't on them. I am VA and I live with my mom but we planned for me to move out. How would we get BAH or is he already receiving it ? I'm completely clueless about BAH

He would just have to turn in your marriage license in Japan and then you would get it for Virginia. It would be more BAH if you moved to Japan with him because the BAH is higher there. But he just has to add you first before he gets it

He needs to add you to his page 2, that will also get you health insurance and other benefits.

If he is being provided quarters in Japan, he will not receive bah. If he is getting his own off base living quarters, he will receive bah, it will be for the zip code he's stationed in. If he were to want to receive bah for your location, he would have get request it from his command directly and this I usually only granted in cases where dependents are in a higher bah area and must stay there due to something like health concerns. He needs to go to the admin Dept at his command.

Actually if he's there as a GEO bachelor then you will get his BHA take your marriage license to fleet and family services here at Norfolk since it's the biggest you will get more help there. I don't know if they will pay for you to move sicnenits after but go talk to someone they will give you the RIGHT answers not what someone in here thinks

Okay, first of all, because he is overseas, the usual advice for BAH may or may not apply, as everything is different for OCONUS orders (outside continental US).  For example, it is OHA (overseas housing allowance), and he will not be receiving that unless he is an E-5 or above.  He needs to get you enrolled in DEERS, page two, etc., and apply for BAH for your location (he will get BAH for you because you are stateside).  You may need to provide a lease agreement, even if you are living with a parent rent free, just find a simple generic form online, roommate agreement style, and use that. There is a lot of paperwork on his end, but Personnel at his command will be able to guide him through it.

You cannot just move to Japan. it is a foreign country with their own immigration laws, and the base must approve your entry.  Your husband needs to apply for command sponsorship for you.  I have a blog I have written here about the process.  He might need to extend his orders over there, he must be an E-4 or above, and you need an overseas screening to determine eligibility.  Go get a civilian passport right now, you will want it anyway, in case you decide to just visit.  Please feel free to ask questions, I was stationed in Japan a long time, both as a sailor and as a dependent spouse.

Second Anti M. We've been getting info about it just in case because there's a few duty stations on his projections that are overseas. She pretty much summed it up. I would also recommend scheduling doctors appointments now if you're planning to move, and look into their laws on traveling with pets. You, your kids and pets (if either are applicable) may require medical approval before you can move there. I don't know the specifics, maybe Anti M can give more specifics for Japan. I just know for some stations overseas, they need information to make sure family members are either healthy or able to receive any medical care they need otherwise at that duty station, pets are up to date on vaccines, etc.
