Hey ladies! :) I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas for birthday gifts for their sailors. Mine is stationed in San Diego right now, actually just arrived there yesterday after being on leave ( WAHH :(  ). But he turns 19 in about 2 weeks, and with him being home I totally forgot to start brainstorming ideas for his birthday. I found a bakery in San Diego that delivers to the bases so I was thinking about having them deliver a birthday cake to him from me. But as for an actual gift, I am totally stuck. For other occasions  I have already gotten him a framed picture of us, a sailor's bible, a navy blanket, and a mizpah coin. I can't think of anything else unique or special that I can afford & that he can have that won't take up a ton of room on the ship (he's only been there 2 days and he's told me how cramped everything is). Does anyone have any ideas or things they've done in the past? Anything would help! Thanks girls!! :)

I would try to find him something not Navy related.  I spent several days hanging out with my husband before he deployed (we moved back home about 3 weeks before, so I took a trip to see him before he left).  I got to meet several of his shipmates and got to hang out with them.  They all have personalities, interests and hobbies outside of being sailors.  Don't get me wrong, they are pretty proud of the Navy and all, but are people too.  I try to get my husband stuff that suits his other interests because that's who he is as a person and I met him before the military came into the picture.  That being said, food makes a great gift.  It doesn't take up space forever...  they eat it and appreciate it and it's not cramping their bunk.  Energy drinks are a big deal.  My hubby took 7 cases (24count cases).  Maybe send him a gift card to a local restaurant.  Depending on where he's stationed, I know there's a little Mexican restaurant in Imperial Beach that is really popular with the sailors on Coronado, it's called El Cilantro.  The galley at Great Lakes (A School) was phenomenal, but I hear the one on Coronado is less so...  My hubby was a bit disappointed.  Anyway, sorry to ramble, hope it helps you a little.

movies are always a great idea. they don't take up a lot of space either. :)

You should Skype him and sing him Happy Birthday in "person". I don't know if he has access to that, but I'm sure seeing you for a few minutes while you guys talk would be a nice thing. You could dress extra cute and wear a birthday hat and have one of those silly blowers. Not sure if you guys are into the cheesy stuff but my husband would think that was funny and dorky at the same time:-) Yes, on the energy drinks & yes on the movies. My husband is in Pensacola right now for A school and those are the two top things sailors are always interested in.
