My boyfriend just left on January 10th for basic. He wasn't supposed to leave until March, but his recruiter made him switch with another guy. My mom and I have been checking this website for a few months now to try and get me ready for it. After he swore in on Tuesday, we went to the airport. We had read on here that we could actually get a pass to get through security, so I was able to spend an extra 2 hours with him. I got really lucky, he had a 5:20 flight so after they left MEPS I was able to spend the day with him. This is honestly the hardest this I have ever been through in my life, but I am coping with it better than I expected. I mean, I still have random moments where I see something, or hear a song that reminds me of him and have breakdowns. Unfortunately, this has happened in public places more than once. We have talked about it before, and we are both completely committed to each other. I mean we haven't been dating long enough to get married, but we have talked about it, and if we are married by the time I am done with college, I will be ready to pack up and go with him wherever he goes. Are there any suggestions to help me get through this a bit better? He doesn't get to go home after basic and is shipped down to SC for A school so he won't be home for 8 months.

Soooo happy!  My mom woke me up at like 4:45 to tell me that my boyfriend's recruiter finally wrote back. I honestly started to cry. He wasn't listed as an SR, but as  an SN which means he was able to an ET in the Nuke program. He is SHIP 11 DIV 081. Anybody else's with him?

Hi Hannah, My husband is in that division!!

Awesome! When did he leave?

He left Jan 9th...when did your boyfriend leave?

January 10th. I haven't heard anything from him yet, he is probably sending his parents everything and we don't really communicate very well. I am hoping to get his first letter today.

March 9th, I as far as I know. I was never able to see the form letter, but everyone else on Ship 11 Div 081 is then. Thanks. I am really hoping to get one this week. It would make me so happy. Is your daughter part of this site as well?

I have just recently seen that the pir for 3/2 are just now getting their first letters from the srs. I would say about this time next week we could expect a letter from our recruits! Atleast I'm hoping so! I'm so ready to hear from my husband! Keep your heads up ladies, its going to be a rough next few weeks, but it will be worth it when your there seeing him in uniform for the first time! That's what I keep telling myself and our 3 year old!

I would rather have him getting the letters from me than me getting letters from him. As much as I would love a letter, he needs more encouragement than I do. (That is what you guys are for.) I have sent out about 12 or 13 letters so far I think.

It has gotten a little easier. I mean I still cry when I see someone with the same car as he had, or when I see the pistachio display at Walmart because he was obsessed with the keyboard cat that was on the commercial. I know, though, that it is going to get a lot easier once I get his first letter. I was hoping for one this week and didn't get one at stood outside by the mailbox in the pouring rain and cried. I really hope he has been getting mine, though. I have sent out around 15 now. I write to him almost every single day. Writing really helps me. I can tell him about my day, it just sucks that I can't really get a response though. Mine doesn't graduate until 3/9 and I don't know if I can go or not. I really hope I can, though.

I know what you mean. Not all of my letters have been actual letter. Sometimes I just write down song lyrics for him because he asked me for my Ipod before he got on the plane and that is the closest thing to an ipod he is gonna get.

Wow, I am really sorry you are going through all of that. I can't imagine what that feels like. But, you are probably right about not telling him that. He is already stressed enough as it is.

About graduation, his PIR date is the day before my spring break starts so I would only be missing four classes and we probably won't do much anyway. I am just not sure if he wrote my name down or not. I haven't seen his form letter and probably won't. His parents and I have never really gotten to know each other much in the nine months we have been sating and they are pretty weird. I think the initial four are intended and they make an official list closer to their PIR date. I wrote to him about how much I want to go and that his dad and brother don't count because his dad has a military ID and his brother is under the age of 12. I know my parents would make the 11 hour drive if we knew for certain I would be able to get in. My dad already has off that weekend and my mom can kind of make her own hours. I just hope he puts me down.

Okay, let's get some things straight. Coloring is NOT childish. I am a freshman in college and I still color. I mean, Junior year in high school my friend and I tried to get a coloring club. We got a petition with over 100 student signatures. Every night I sleep with the giant penguin my boyfriend won me this summer at an amusement park. I go to the extent of spraying it with the body spray of his deodorant. I have a penguin pillow pet too. Not from him, but I asked for it for Easter last year. I spray all my letters with his favorite perfume of mine, VS Love Spell too. The last few hours before he got on the plane he was sniffing my neck continuously.

Oh, I know what you mean. I tell him just about everything too. I don't know how many times I have picked up my phone to call or text him to tell him something. He used to come over every Wednesday after I got home from my classes and now I have the urge to pick up the phone and call him. But, I think that getting letters from him will help a lot. But. yea, I just want to see his face or hear his voice.

I must admit, this is a tad odd, but I don't have the right to judge you. I don't really know you to be able to judge you. I mean, my sister met her boyfriend online and he turned out to be a really nice guy. Even if he did write my name down, I would never know because his parents would probably never tell me. I mean he has a mom, a dad, a brother, and a sister, but his dad and brother shouldn't count because his dad has a military ID and his brother is under 12. Plus, I'm not even sure if his brother will be able to go or not. He has Autism and isn't good with crowds. So if his brother doesn't come then his mom can't come. The whole thing is so confusing. But, thanks. I really hope I can go.

I am right there with you.  I have been with my fiance for 3 years and we've been engaged about a year.  He shipped January 18th to Great Lakes and I have been taking it better than I thought.  I think he prepared me enough before he left, so I knew what to expect.  Although it is the absolute hardest thing I have ever been through in my life.  I am here for him and support him.  They are going to need us every step of the way.  They need us to be there waiting right where they left us, and they need us to sacrifice everything for them.  I love him more than I ever have before this is making our relationship so strong.  I hope he thinks the same!  I'm waiting for my first letter.  If you ever need someone to just talk I am here for you.  I cry on my way home from work nearly every night, mostly happy tears some times sad.  I just miss him we went from living together for 3 years and talking everyday, now I have no one to randomly call throughout the day.  I tell myself crying won't bring him home and will not make time fly by.  I know what you are going through.  It is great that we can all stick together through this very hard time.  It will get better soon we will be able to talk to them a lot!  I write him every single day and I know he will love reading my 3 page letters and getting pictures of our dogs.  It's almost over and the best part is about to start.  Just think positive everyday you will make it through.
