So my boyfriend left for his first deployment yesterday. I know from other sources that email is used on the ships and that they can receive letters and packages but I have no idea how to get those to him. He wasn't given a special email address before he left (he was shipped on kind of short notice due to the fact that his ship has already been out for almost two months) so I'm kind of confused /: can someone explain to me how this whole thing will work??

Once he gets there they will set him up with a e-mail address.  In the mean time you can message him on FB some ships (well ok, most) do allow them to go on FB.   Also start shopping for goodies to send him.  I would go to the $1 store and get little toys and stuff, plus of course his fav food and bathroom stuff.

No worries they will take care of him, but it will take a few days for everything to get straighted out, so don't stress (to much) if he doesn't answer your FB messages.

Thank you!

I guess I'll just send him messages on facebook for the time being.

Do you know when I'll be able to find out where to send him real letters and packages and stuff?

What ship is he on?  You can google the ship, most if not all have websites that list the address.

My boyfriend is on deployment right now and we mainly use his navy email to communicate. Facebook is a blocked website for him on the ship. He should be able to call you using a ship to shore calling card soon and that way he can give you his email address/mailing address. This is only my experience however :) Also, I bought him a calling card from the NEX online at the beginning of his deployment because the store on the ship was selling them so fast. I had it mailed to me and emailed my boyfriend the card's information that way we were able to talk sooner. If you want any info on how to get one of those just send me a message!
