I'm sitting here, just about to buy my plane ticket, and i can't seem to do it. I went to see his recruiter to ask him some questions about his bootcamp graduation (before joining N4M) and the guy said that there's a small chance that he could be one of the guys that leaves for school right after graduation. So I was wondering, how often this happens...should I buy my ticket? Or will it be a waste?

Where is his A school? If its in Great Lakes he'll have the whole weekend to spend with you (with restrictions of course.) If it's anywhere else he'll have all day Friday after PIR then he flies out Saturday. He'll have his flight info and although he has to take the bus to the airport you're allowed to meet him there and hang out with him until his flight.

He's going to Florida. You're sure that he'll fly on Saturday? His recruiter told me that his flight would be on Sunday.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.  If I were you, I would expect to get until about 8pm with him Friday, then he goes back to him barracks, packs maybe gets a nap in.  They ship the new Sailors to the airport in the wee hours of the night to wait for their flights, some of which may not be until the afternoon or evening.  If he's going to Pensacola, I think he leaves from Midway airport.  You can go to the airport and wait with him for his flight.  If he gets orders that he doesn't leave until later, great, you have extra time.  But I wouldn't plan on it.  Why don't you pop over the the recently graduated PIR groups and see if anyone did fly out a different day?

HTH!

Even if his flight is Sunday he'll go to the airport Saturday.

That is not true...they don't take them to the airport a day ahead of time and leave him there.

Your sailor should know what his flight is going to be. My husband knew his and wrote me in a letter. Of course they change. Its the military. They dont always fly them out saturday to FL. I had a friend that just was at PIR last weekend and her sailor flew out on sunday to Pcola. My sailor flew out tuesday after PIR. Its a personal decision imo. I would have gone to see him even if it was for just that time. But it was an 11 hour drive so it wasnt a huge deal for me, mostly because I dont mind driving lol. But if he does fly out saturday or sunday you can hang out with him there.

So, are the changes of being a grad n go very high? I really want to get my ticket soon. But for one day...? I don't know...

I cant really tell ya 100% for sure. Most sailors for Pcola that I know of dont fly out friday but possibly saturday, sunday, or later in the week.I know it sucks but this is the beginning of the Navy Life. hurry up and wait and plans change and you have to be flexible. Sometimes you will dish out a lot of money to see them for a few days. :/ Its unfortuante but my husband and I flew him out the sunday after thanksgiving once and it cost us an extra 200$ almost for him to stay one extra day.

You can always get the ticket with southwest or a company that will let you cancel and use the credit towards another flight and if it ends up he is going to get flown out too early you can fly out to see him in Pcola maybe when he gets phased up to where he can come off base to see you.

I didn't realize that there were airlines that did that, but I think you're right, and that's the best way to go. Thanks for your help (:

Southwest typically will I think! You might call and ask but they are super nice. I love flying southwest. unless there is something a lot cheaper we always go with them!

My husband was supposed to fly out at 7 am one morning but found out he had more leave days then he thought so we called at 4 am and pushed his flight back 3 days and southwest only charged us another $80 on top of his ticket to switch! Plus your bags fly free with southwest!

Thank you for the airline info, I'll be sure to look into it.
