So...
I'm in Atlanta while my husband is at RTC and I've already tried twice to get my dependent ID to no avail. The first time he called and said that my paperwork was all in DEERS and that I could just go to the AFB and get my ID made so that I can start shopping on base and saving money. I went with a friend who is a Navy wife and she got me on to the base with her ID. Apparently form 1172 had not been added to the rest of my info in DEERS. Well, I went home and two weeks later received form 1172 -- yay! (or so I thought)... Went with another friend to the base, and this time I was told that I could not get my ID unless my sponsor was with me! I thought that I had read that I wouldn't need to have my sponsor with me -- obviously he is in Illinois and not available to sit with me while my picture is taken down here in Georgia! Has anyone else had this problem or is it just some quirky rule practiced here? Thanks!

Is POA Power of Attorney? Unfortunately the one we worked out before he left is only for financial things, we found out after. Would such a POA have to be notarized? If not, he could probably mail something like that, or I will just have to wait a few more weeks. Thanks
Hmm, it might just be your base. I was able to get onto base by showing the guards my 1172 form and got it without him. They said all my info was in the comp, i took my passport, birth certificate, and marriage license with me just in case. Try another base! :) You would need a POA if the 1172 wasnt already filled out, that way you could fill it out on his behalf.. since you have your 1172 already, you should be all ready to go!
Yeah, it must be that base. You do NOT need your sponsor if you have the form. Whoever told you that has a boss... do what the military does, take it up a level.
Or use the RAPIDS site locator, see if there's someplace else. (I'd provide the link, but it keeps locking ion on my location.)
Apparently there is an ID/DEERS office less than half a mile from my house! It's closed until Monday so we'll see how that works out. Thanks for the tip!
you shouldn't need a sponsor with you at all. I got mine while my husband was in basic. maybe they misunderstood you, or they didn't know what they were talking about. on the forms you got there should be a number you can call to see all the places around you to get your ID , I would try going to a different place . I went to a national guard office and got mine
Bases can make things more stringent, they can not make rules more lax. So yes the base could require him to be there with you...but I would ask to see that in writing from them as to where it states that he must be there.
Learn now, everything in the military is in writing somewhere.
I hope it is that easy for me when the ID office close to us is open on Monday!
