Nuke school? When they check in, they are told what time frames they can marry. Since you are not already married, moving will be out of pocket for you. He can live with you in base housing once you're married (not every base has housing for married students, Goose Creek does).
When my nephew went through the nuke program, they could marry anytime. Lately I've heard they have to marry before A school begins or wait until the break between A school and Power school. Hopefully a nuke wife who knows the latest policy will post it soon. Policy changes all the time, be prepared to be flexible.
Okay! He thinks he gets week off for Christmas..is that considered a break? Like could we then? Sorry so many questions! You were a huge help thanks so much!
Well, no. A school and Power School are completely different, that is the break I was referring to. He'll still be in A school over Christmas and must go by their current guidelines. He needs to ask when he arrives at nuke school. I'm almost certain it will be okay, but I don't want to say yes100% because I know how fast policy changes. Plan on it, don't put any money down on anything in case the answer is no, and have a Plan B. And a Plan C.
No matter what info you get, always double-check it directly with your sailor after he double-checks it with the right people. New sailors get a lot of partial info, or info they don't grasp perfectly, so it is a learning process for them also.
He is misinformed. The paid move depends on how his orders were issued... authorizing a dependent move or not. He was single when those orders were issued. Now granted, Goose Creek moves more wives than any other school command, so maybe they have a way around that. Maybe their CO can authorize the moves. But it isn't usual, and certainly does not apply to any other training command!
Those dates are the unofficial ones I've heard out of Great Lakes, but all the COs of all the school commands have to sign off on them. I wouldn't be buyig plane tickets until that happens.
At Christmas, even the un-phased sailors can take leave, meaning they can travel outside of the liberty limits.
Thanks. I was born in a Naval hospital, so Navy or retired Navy all my life, both dependent and active duty myself. I joined this site when my nephew went nuke, to update my knowledge. I also have a married ET in Japan (acquired kid). The boards teach a lot.
The wives who have been through it recently are a great resource when they come back and share. However, one spouse's experience can vary wildly from the next, especially if they're from different Navy communities. Nukes do things differently from aviation, and both are different from subs, and the surface fleet and training commands can be polar opposites. That's why someone with the long overview is useful too. I may not have specifics, but I do know how things work Navy-wide. It is very true that some things never change.
Sailorwifemom gives terrific advice and answers. Beautiful communication style.
