Hey Everyone, I am new to this site. My sweet fiancée has just went off to Basic Training. We normally see each other everyday so this is very new to me. I have a new questions, how long will it be before he can write letters? Any suggestions on how to keep busy and not miss him so much! Thanks

Hi Synease! My husband just got to RTC on Jan 21st... in my opinion the first week or so was the hardest. We were the same, together each and every day. He got to Great Lakes on a Tuesday and the next Monday I got his box of clothes and his letter. But usually they don't all come on the same day. Once you do get the Form Letter you'll have his PIR date and there will be a group created for those divisions graduating that same day. Those people in that group are going to be a HUGE support. They are all going through the same exact learning process as you!

Stay busy. I miss my husband so much more when I am home alone. If you are really having a hard time, avoid being alone. Even if you are with someone else and talking about him, it seems to be easier than just being alone thinking about everything. Try to just check out of the thoughts for now.. easier said than done, right! Good luck and read all you can on hear. There are some very amazing people willing to help out here! Oh, and WRITE. : ) Even if you don't have the address yet, write now. I had three letters to send out to my husband by the time I got his address. He said he was one of four that had mail during the first mail call. I call that a success! haha. But really, good luck and stay busy!

I didn't get a phone call for about 2 weeks, and then I got the first letter a couple days after that. I'm not sure of you workout but you should definitely go to the gym or go on runs with friends. It helps me:) also this website has helped me so much! I learned a lot from signing up and I don't feel as scared or as worried as I did when my boyfriend was in boot camp and I didn't know anything. Just do stuff you enjoy, don't forget to have fun!

Congratulations on wanting to take this journey with him, because its just going to keep changing from here on out. My fiancé left for boot camp Jan 7th. His graduation is in two weeks and I have to say that it wasn't easy. I had plenty of bad days where I had no one to talk to because I usually go to him, But I can tell you this, write letters. Write a ton! I starting writing the day after he left, and It helped a lot especially if I had something on my mid that was bothering me, or I just missed him. I get letters from him now about how happy he is to receive a letter from me everyday. If you feel as though you won't be occupied, go out for the day, enjoy the free time, do something fun, and then come home and write to him about it. they love to hear about things going on outside boot camp especially from those they love. Keep pushing forward and living and soon enough it will be your time to go to graduation too. Good Luck to you!
