Hi ladies I just wanted to ask if it true that after a certain phase of A school my husband will be allowed to live off base with me if I move around the area? He has an AIRR contract so he will be in pensacola FL for almost 2 years., and he's telling me I can come live with him a few weeks into A school. Is this true? And if it is, are we allowed to apply for on base housing???

It depends on how long his A school is. If it's more than 6 months you "should" be on his orders to move there. If not and you move on your own then he has to get special permission to live off base and with you. It depends on his Chief. Some people get lucky and their Chief says yes for whatever reason and then other people don't get so lucky like my husband and they say No. They won't count your A and C schools together either. I don't know what an AIRR contract is but most people who are in flight school more than 6 months the NAS side does get their spouses moved over from what I have heard. Everyone has different situations so it's hard to say for sure. It really depends on his command officer and chief. But yes, there is a very good chance. If he's in basic training right now he will get to see his orders and will be able to tell if you are included. You should know by graduation PIR if that is the case. I don’t think you need special permission from the chief if you are included on his orders. You will just have to talk to housing and see how that all works and the timing of it all for getting base housing. Yes, you can live on base if you are on his orders. But if you’re not included and moving out on your own then you have to live off base. This is all just second-hand information from what others told me when I ask similar questions about my husband’s A and C school. In the end because my husband’s A school was only 4 months long I wasn’t included on his orders. Even though with his C school it’s more than 6 months they don’t count the two. I’m sure others will have more information for you as well.

Thank you so much for all the useful information. His AIRR training lasts for 2 year but idk if it's all one school or he switches around. I guess I will just have to wait and see when he gets his orders after PIR, like you said, and see if I'm included, im really hoping I am(:

Thanks again for the info.
