Good morning all,

So we got news yesterday that my sailor just started A school after being there for almost 2 months, which I am very happy about. His schooling is only 5 weeks long and he will be home after those5 weeks hopefully. But my questions are;

1. If he has school for 5 weeks and Labor day is in there, technically 5 weeks from today is a Thursday that he would graduate but since Labor day is in there would he have to be there till Friday to make up for that extra day?

2. When he does graduate either it be on a Friday or Thursday can he leave that day or does he have to wait to leave to go on leave? Also does he have to have a set amount of days or can he ask for how many days he gets?

3. We plan to get married when he is on leave but we would have to take one day to get the marriage license and then the next day to get married and then the third day to go get the marriage certificate and on that same day we were going to go to a base and get me enrolled in DEERS. But we have no Naval base close to us the only base we have is a Air Force base which I know we can go to that to get enrolled in the DEERS program but I know we have to take the marriage certificate but all of my information will have my maiden name on it and not my married name is that something I would have to get before I can get enrolled in the DEERS program?

4. Also how would we go about getting information on housing and how to sign up for it for when he gets his next duty station? And how does that work? We also have 2 dogs a Miniature Pincher and a Beagle Basset mix, can we take them with us to a base or do we have to do off base housing? And do I have to show that they have had all of their vaccinations?

5. Before he leaves A school and gets orders for his next duty station should he tell them that he plans on coming back married so that they can tell his next duty station that information?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, we have been on hold for so long now that I have had all of these  questions and now I can finally ask them and tell him so he will know what to do/expect to do.

Yeah that's your best bet is to go visit him on his duty free weekends so that he can save up that time because believe me I loved those 15 days!!!! Now we're just waiting to get moved

Yea I wish I could go visit him but we live like 700+ miles away from each other and with me working m-f it makes it hard for me to get off of work and go and see him :( but hopefully since he didn't take any time off maybe he will get 15 days he said he only wanted to take 5 but I just don't see how that will work with all the stuff we have to do but who knows I just hope that they say his classes are 5 weeks long and they stick to it and not add time on or take his leave away from him.

If you are not married when he gets orders he can get orders overseas (it isn't up to him where he goes, it is up to the Navy) if he gets orders overseas, you are NOT moving with him.

Also if you are not married when he gets his orders, they only allow him to move a certain weight limit of stuff, if the weight limit is over he will pay a LOT!

As was said the Navy doesn't care what he is going to do, regarding getting married, they only care if he is married.

The length of the school you where all told is perfect world only, which never happens.  He has to go through base indoc, odds are he will be on hold for some time.  I highly doubt he will be there for only the 5 weeks.

Yea I know that the Navy will choose for him to go wherever they need him and because he is not an E-4 nor are we married I know I will not be on his orders. Also he has already done INDOC and was already on hold he just started school on Thursday he was there since July 4th. And I did not know that if it was a certain weight they would move it but i expected for us to end up paying for all of it to get moved.

I hope you also understand that if he gets orders overseas you will not be going with him.

Just read your stuff is in POD's, if it is already boxed up the Navy will not move it either.  You will have to un pack everything for them to repack it, for the Navy to move it.

Yea I know that I didn't anticipate that one and why wont they move it if its in a PODS? Also my PODS is in savannah so I would have to have them move it from Georgia to Ohio then unpack it and then have the Navy repack it and then ship it to us?

I would recommend you anticipate that could happen, as it could happen what is both of your plans if that happens?  First thing to learn in the Navy is expect the unexpected.  what is his rating going to be?

The Navy has to pack everything so they know if it was broken or not before move it.  Some of the movers will take boxes that where prepacked...BUT they will require someone to sign that they are not liability for anything that happens to the items in those boxes

Also where is his home of record, meaning where did he enlist from? As that is where they will move stuff from to his duty station.  If it is not at his home of record, it can cost you all money for them to go somewhere else to get it.  Example:  If the stuff is in Ohio and his home of record is FL and he gets stationed in TX.  They would only move it from FL to TX, so from Ohio to TX is more miles so they would charge the difference.

Well I am working full time right now so if that does happen then I have money to move it up here and with his military discount and my AAA discount we should be able to afford it or I could go down there if that would be cheaper which I have not found that out yet and his rating is ABE. Yea we have everything all packed because before he left for basic and I moved to Ohio we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment in Savannah so we had to put everything in storage so we could move it when we were ready. He enlisted from Savannah, and all of our stuff is in a POD's location in Savannah because I didnt want to risk it being moved up here for it to be loaded in another storage unit when it was already loaded in the POD's and they are storing it for me. Which I had thought that if they did move it it would be cheaper to move it from Savannah to where ever we are going rather than for me to pay for it to be moved to ohio and then pack it all back up to move to another location.
