Hi everybody! I have a question that I hope maybe I can find the answer for here. Do all recruits get signed up for a Navy Fed account, even if they don't use it as direct deposit? I am keeping up with my fiance's email and she got an email from Navy Fed. We had agreed that she would use our joint account, so that I could pay rent and all of that. Question two, if she did do navy fed, will I get her debit card at home, or will she get it there? I'm just so worried about paying my bills for the next 6 weeks.

They only get an account if they sign up for it.  Also, the first check is quite small, so if you do not have anything set aside, you may find things to be a little tight for the next month.

Navy Fed sends out emails to try and get people to sign up.

Thanks for your response. She got a welcome account, so I'm assuming she did sign up for something. I'm worried because we aren't married and both of our names are on the check that they wouldn't let her use it.

Even if they signed up for Navy Fed doesn't necessarily mean that her direct deposit is going to that account, my husband signed up for Navy Fed but still use his regular checking account for the direct deposit.

No, not every recruit is signed up for NFCU automatically. It is totally possible she signed up to become a member, but provide a different routing and account number for her direct disposit; however, for the first bank briefing where they set up direct deposit, they usually divide the recruits into groups based off what they want to use as their bank after a brief presentation from NFCU reps. I would say it's very likely she signed up for NFCU, and I wouldn't blame her for doing so, it's pretty awesome when you're AD, so she probably now has an alternate plan and just hasn't gotten to tell you yet. Her card will be delivered directly to her in boot camp, but if she listed you as a joint owner, you can also get a card in the mail. If she's receiving emails from NFCU that you have access to, you should be able to access her account and just use mobile banking when they send an access number, or once she sets up the account, she can give you the access number and password when she calls. If she hasn't already signed you up as a joint owner, she can ask her Yeoman to set up an appointment at the bank for her to make you one, which you can recommend to her next time you chat on the phone. Another option she has is to designate a certain portion of her pay to be directly deposited to your joint account before it hits her checking account, she does this through mypay, and it will be recorded on her les.
Thank you so much! It's just a little added stress there. Haha. I'm sure she's got it all figured out. I'm just a bit out of the loop.
