Hi everyone :) I was wondering if anyone could give me advise on moving. PIR is October 14th and he is leaving the next day for Pensacola. I know that they will not move me, but I am considering moving myself.. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if anyone could give me any advise or recommendations. Thanks :)

what is his rate? How long is his A school? My husband was honestly only there for abouttttt , three and a half months. So it just depends I would say if its worth the money and where you are coming from. and if you can afford to live down there on your own dime unless you are getting BAH if you are married.

He is going for Rescue Swimmer, so from what I understand he will do Air Crew Candidacy school, then Rescue Swimmer School, then his A school, all of which will be in Pensacola. So from what I gather he will be there for quite a while. Especially if he has long holds between each school. And yes, we are married :)

I LOVE it down there, so go for sure!!!  The area around the base is not so good, but the rest is.  We lived in Foley AL which is about 45 mins away so we knew the area already.  They have a hotel there called Value place with cheap weekly rates its pretty nice too I'd stay there for a couple weeks to get to know the place and find a good deal.  I know pretty much that whole area so hit me up if you need anything.  Where you moving from???

Here is the link to the hotel

Good Luck!!!

Also check out this group she still lives there I'm pretty sure!!!

Thanks so much!! This really helps. I will be moving from Oklahoma.. So I have quite a move ahead, haha!!
omg! i am from Okahoma too! Its abt 14-15 hours so its not too bad. :) I went to visit him in Pcola you will love it! :) I would say since you are going to be there for awhile yes def move. I would :) and getting married down there is super easy if you need any help with that let me know. I went on spring break and got married to my hubby down there!
Oh really, small world!! Lol :) We are already married, so I don;t have to worry about that :) At first I was planning on just staying here and working and saving money, but after adding all of the travel expenses I figured out that I would pay the same amount to see him everyday that I would to see him once a month!! And I could always get a job in Pcola and save money too :)) Do you, or anyone have any recommendations on apartments.. or areas to avoid and such?? I don't want to pick a bad area! :/
lol oh duh I just reread the post above lol just got antsy lol. Yea it cost a pretty penny to travel back and forth. I have a friend that lived down there let me ask her and see where she lived. Everyone says the area is ghetto around the base is bad but honestly they say that about every base I have looked into. Are you a part of the group for A schools in Pcola. If not you should join bc there are alot of ppl on there who know the area really well. How long is his training? I have heard they will pay if the actual school is over 20 weeks I think (dont take my word for it) but its always something to ask abt bc it would be helpful. Also since you are married you could also email the family readiness ppl in Pcola just google the info also the housing ppl can give you info on the housing situation in the area. I know there were some girls on the other group talking abt apts to live in :)
I put a request in to be part of that group :) He will be in Pensacola for about a year fro what I gather. He is going for Rescue Swimmer.. so that is AIRR I think. He does NACCS (Air Crew Candidacy school), then RSS ( Rescue Swimmer school-- which is his C school), then AW (Aviation Warfare-- which is his "A" school) and all of these will be in Pcola. So he actually does his C school be A school, lol!! But between all of these schools and all of the holds inbetween I sure he will be there for a long time!! Also please do ask you friend, I will take any and all advice I can get right now :)) Thanks so much for all your help!!
ok great! Well I know the Navy will do moves for A Schools over a certain amt of time. You should ask him to talk to his RDCs and talk to him abt his orders and if they will move you considering it will be a long stretch of time they might just do that even if they give you money for a DITY move! I will see her tonight and I will ask her!!

I am actually moving down to Pensacola this month to join my sailor down there! And I can tell you about two apartment complexes that are around the bases. Wellington Arms apartment is one. They are cheap and afforable. BUT not the safest area. I was going to be going there, but after my fiance found out about the area he didn't want to go for it. The next place I know about is called Sandalwood. A little bit more expensive, but they seem pretty nice and a safer place. I hear they have a cop there around the area apparently 24/7. So that is where I will be staying! And trust me, if my fiance can trust a place with me being pregnant and by myself alot of the time, it might be something of interest for others! (:

Hope this helps with your search!

Thank you so much!! I will look into both of these places! I'm happy to see someone else going through the same thing that I am!! I'm happy Im not the only one :)) Best of luck with your move and starting this new journey, I will be right behind you... in a month or so!! :)) I can't wait!
