Hey ladies, I am a fairly new Navy Girlfriend as my boyfriend won't be graduating basic until November 27th. I was wondering if anyone could lend some advice as to where to stay for PIR Weekend since I will be traveling alone from Buffalo NY and do not really know anyone from the area who has already gone through this. I did see the site with the recommended places to stay, but when going through this I did see some other comments that said some of the hotels were in really bad condition and were not too friendly, keep in mind I am flying in by myself so I will not have a car!
Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! First of all, where did you stay during his PIR, what hotel? And also what did you do after? I am trying to think of ideas on what he might like to do, but I know that it will be limited since I will not have my car with me!
I am in the same boat as you! I need help on find hotel and activities to do while were there.
I saw on your page that you were from the Bronx and during the phone call on Saturday my boyfriend was telling me that one of the guys that he has become really good friends with was from the Bronx, married, and had a 2 year old son. I'm wondering if he was talking about your husband! So cool!
OMG! Yes !! Most likely it is! How exciting is that, and the coincidence that you and I are in the same site.
I spoke to my husband saturday as well. I miss him so much, Im sure you miss your bf too. He told me I should start buying/booking my flight/hotel soon because there are a lot of DIV ( 13 DIV) that are graduating that same day and its going to be hecktic getting a good hotel as the day gets closer.
I have already booked my flight because a lot of them were going so fast and some were already sold out! I am flying into Midway (a lot cheaper than O'Hare) and then will be taking a shuttle from the airport to a hotel, but I'm having trouble finding a hotel to choose! I need to find one that offers a shuttle to and from graduation and hopefully one that has a decent room! But yes especially with the Thanksgiving holiday it is going to be hectic to book a flight/hotel! I'm hoping someone on here can recommend a good hotel!
I can imagine, I'm coming out of NYC and flights here get sold out by the minute. I am trying to book it now, but my husband parents are going with me and I can only find flights with 2 seats remaining. I am stressed. How far is Midway compared to O'hare? I am planning to rent a car, because from what I heard everything is quite far.
From what I have heard Midway is a hour from Waukegan, which is where the closest hotels are, about 3 miles from the base. I am stressing because I won't be able to rent a car, so I'm wondering how a taxi service is going to be cost wise and also if its going to be hard to get ahold of one after the PIR and once we want to go do something. However, a lot of the hotels in Waukegan have a free shuttle to and from the PIR Service.
its in waukegan i think its spelled. anyways its only like 15 min from Great Lakes, which was also nice! not as much traffic as chicago.
Hello there! My husband just graduated from basic on 10/18 so its still pretty fresh in my head. We stayed at Ramada Inn in Waukegan off of Green Bay (roughly 7 mins away). It wasnt the worst experience BUT the rooms smelled, wifi went out and it just didnt seem worth the price we paid for it. Ive heard fantastic things about Navy Lodge though! Navy Lodge is close to RTC (Recruit Training Command) and to make a reservation you just need your SR's name and theyll set it up for you over the phone, plus they have pretty decent rates for graduating family/friends.
Make sure you go to Sarges Meet and Greet the night before PIR at Sundance Saloon. They have loads of information available for you and give you directions on where to go and what gates you can enter through and whatnot. SUPER HELPFUL!
There is a big mall/outlet mall in Gurnee about 10 mins away from where we were staying at Ramada and they have restaurants and pretty cool shops. A lot of the A school sailors hang out there. Theres also a Six Flags in Gurnee which would be kinda cool as well for your SR if they wanted to do something fun.
Let me know if you want more information!
