So my fiance arrived in Chicago last night and called me at the airport around 8pm. I know they usually don't get to boot camp till later, around midnight or so. We didn't talk very long as he was getting ready to head out, but we both had assumed we'd hear each other one more time when he'd get to make his phone call at boot camp to tell me he arrived. I waited up half the night for it and it never came. Any ideas as to why? I know he's there and safe, and maybe with time restraints he just had no time, but do they even get a chance at all after the first night there? I was hoping I would get it a day late or so....someone help me out? I know it's not a huge deal, as the phone call is only 5 seconds long and scripted, but I'm still curious....and it makes me a bit sad.

Hmmm...It probably was just that they had so many people coming in and stuff that time simply didnt allow it. I never got the "I've arrived" call, he got to make it, but he called his parents instead. So I know how you feel, I was kinda bummed but it is just that short scripted call, and besides I got one right when he landed in Chicago, so I felt okay about it. I havent heard of anyone getting it the following day, maybe that does happen but Im not sure, but one thing I do know is even though they say youre supposed to get the "Im here" call and possibly two others, none are really guaranteed. Just try to hang in there...it will take some time but you will hear from him soon enough! Best of luck! :)

Just hang in there. He may have called his parents, because they call that night, then, well, silence for the next few weeks. If you don't hear anything, that tends to be a good thing! Write every day, even if it's a few sentences long. He will definitely appreciate all of the letters he'll receive from you. My fiance still has all of the letters I sent him, and I sent him over 80 of them, mainly because I wrote more than once a day. Haha. He said he loved every single one of them. He loved that when they did mail call, his name was always called because he knew I was writing him. Letters keep them sane. Also, if they love sports, send them score sheets, especially the NFL! My fiance was in bootcamp during March Madness and hated how he was missing the basketball games. I would send him the brackets, and soon, he became the most popular guy because he had score sheets! Little news of the outside world means everything to them. Keep your head up, and it will go by quickly.
