My boyfriend just left for bootcamp Jan 27th and I just want to make sure I am prepared for when I go to PIR. I have been reading all of the discussions that everyone has been posting and the comments and they are really helpful but I was wondering about the calling cards and what I should do. This is all new to me and the help is much appreciated.

Lots of people suggest you send a calling card with him to boot camp so that he can call home, but the reality is this is not a necessity. He will have the chance to buy a calling card there at the NEX. My husband (then boyfriend) never took any with him, I never sent him any, and it in no way harmed his chances to call home. Don't sweat it, he'll be able to grab one there! :)
When your husband, boyfriend then left how many times did he call and how many letters did you receive?
He had a chance to call 3 times (4 if you count the one they get when they arrive), but as you probably already know it really varies division to division. I've heard of some girls who received calls almost weekly and others who didn't receive any until their sailor completed battlestations.
Letters? Lots... it was 5 years ago so I can't remember an exact count. Lol. I'd get them in the mail once a week, usually on Thursdays.
When you would send them , how many did you put into an envelope and did you just use a regular envelope? I have about 14 pages to send so far so I was wondering if i should send more than one envelope.
You could put them all in one large envelope if you'd like. As long as there's nothing he's not allowed to have (such as food or electronics or risky pictures) then he's not going to get in trouble for the size of the envelope and how many pages are inside it. Just make sure it has teh correct postage to get there.
I always just sent one letter per envelope and sent one about once a day once I had his address.
