OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OCS Questions
Hi Ladies! My husband will start OCS on Nov 8th. Seeking advice from those who’ve gone through it with their spouse/SO. Some of my questions won’t have clear cut answers, but I’d love to hear your personal experience and advice.
1. How often can they call? I’ve heard they get a short “I’m here” call on the first day. How soon can they call after that, and how frequently? When are they given e-mail privileges?
2. What is the order of events for graduation? How formal/what should I wear to the banquet?
3. Do they normally get some sort of a break after OCS? My husband will be heading to Intel school in Dam Neck, VA, but wondering if he’ll get some time in between.
4. Any tips for staying connected with your husband during OCS? Other things I should know about the process? It’s going to be tough being apart from each other with little communication, but I figure the more I know going into it, the less I’ll have to freak out about :-)

Hello! Welcome to the adventure!
1. Beyond that short call, you won't hear from him for a while. I am not sure when phone access for the 15 minute phone calls begins. My SO had trouble getting a phone card to make said calls, so we were out of touch for a while. He will likely get email after he passes RLP inspection (end of week 3/ start of week 4), so that is very nice. My SO got his phone back in Week 9 when he got his candio box.
2. There are differences with each graduation, but in general there are Hi-Moms on Thursday night, which the candidates put on themselves. That Friday you will have the graduation. My SO didn't get to do the Pass in Review because they are doing an indoor graduation. I am not going over the top with my clothing. I am thinking to just look put-together- maybe Sunday best? Neither of these occasions require a ball gown, but you'll want to look sharp.
3. My SO doesn't get a big break after OCS. We are PCSing about a week after he graduates. It will depend on his orders, but don't bank on a big chunk of time.
4. I wrote to my SO every day. The letters were a big morale boost for him, and they certainly kept my spirits up. It felt like he was there with me in a way. Once he got email, I continued to write letters, but I was able to email. We talked as much as we could, but I also recognize that he is extremely busy and tired. The email and phone privileges are so that he can do his job more effectively. Talking to loved ones is a bonus. We just try to keep it positive.
On another note, one thing that helped me was staying extremely busy. I always had plans, and I have been working on cleaning up the house for the PCS. The worst days were the days when all I could do was sit around. Things will happen. Their email will inevitably go down or he'll get locked out of his computer over the weekend or something. STAY BUSY! He'll be thinking of you, even if he can't get through. Think about graduation. Don't get bogged down by counting the days until you can count the days on one hand.
