My husband and I have recently found out that we’re expecting! We’re nervous and excited as it will be our first child! However, I wanted to know if the military covers the gynae check ups, delivery, and the hospital stay. Should we know about anything important regarding this as well?

Congratulations! What an exciting time!

I know nothing about Tricare insurance yet as my husband is only in bootcamp...but I just found out I am pregnant with our second child so I want to know these answers too.

I hope you get your answers!

Hey there, I left a reply at the bottom of the thread about what I found out!

Call tri-care as coverages is different where you live in the country. It also depends if your PCM has you in network or out and depends if your prime or standard on Tri-Care. You can pay 0%-20% or more lots of variables 800-538-9552 other wise got to tricare.com

It is all covered*, and the size of your co-pay and your choice of providers will vary by whether you are on Tricare Prime or Tricare Standard.  It is a trade off, either you have low or no co-pays and little choice of provider on Prime, or your get to choose your in network provider but have higher costs on Standard.  Either way, no worries, they have you covered!

Tricare has a good "Is it covered" section on their website, and are very receptive to questions if you call them.

* but not otc prenatal vitamins, they must be prescribed.

Hi again! I actually covered under US Family Health Plan rather than TRICARE since they sent me a package to offer it when I first came over with my husband. They are not the same right? I guess I should try contacting them to ask how much they cover. Thanks all of you who responded!

Not the same at all.  Triare will be a secondary insurance if you have another.  Do call them.  In most cases, Tricare is superior as far as cost goes.

Hmm I looked it up and the USFHP website actually states that “US Family Health Plan is a TRICARE Prime option and a permanent part of the Military Health System.” I have yet to call them up yet due to the holidays. I will update once I find out more!

They may have done a name change, so that would be good to know!

I know we went from UHC to something else on our Retiree Prime.  I'd have to look the at the letter I have on file, but there was a change for me too.

Hi all, I called the US Family Health Plan member services and they told me that it is all covered. So the thing is you have to go to specific providers and hospitals. For example, in my case, I went to the primary care provider assigned to me through USFHP to get my initial pregnancy urine test done and confirmed my pregnancy, then got them to refer me to an ob-gyn since that clinic didn’t have someone specializing in that. Then my primary care provider had to fax the pregnancy confirmation to them, while USFHP had to fax them a billing authorization before I could make an appointment, so that it will be covered. I will get 20 ob-gyn visits covered by USFHP until my delivery date. Hospitals wise, you need to call your insurance provider to check which are the hospitals in your area that are covered, or if your ob-gyn is from a big enough clinic or hospital that does deliveries too, then it’ll probably be at the same place. I have had a pleasant experience with the receptionists at USFHP member services helpline, though the claims processing can be a little bit slow at times.
