Ok so my husband leaves jan 27 for his basic training he is either an et or fc in AECF.
I am trying to get bills and things sorted out for when he's gone. Since he leaves the 27th when will his first pay be in his account? What other kind of help if any will he or I be getting when he's at basic? He will be quitting his current job a week before he leaves for basic. Is this smart or is there a chance he gets sent out later? I have a job of courses. I am just trying to see how financially we will be when he is gone. Also one more thing. How much money will he be spending while in basic what kinds of things does he pay for? Thanks!

You should get BAH (housing allowance) while he's in boot camp in addition to his pay.  My husband also quit his job a week before he left and it worked out quite well.  His date shouldn't change that close to the ship date.

As for when he'll get paid first, I can't quite remember how long it took for us and I'm not in a position to look right now, but they get paid on the 1st and the 15th.  He won't get paid the first pay period because he will have barely been there.  If you're trying to plan finances, I wouldn't expect to see it until Feb 1st.

They don't really spend much at all at boot camp.  There's the cost of the uniforms, and they can buy phone cards or stamps but it's cheaper and easier just to take those things when he leaves rather than buying them once he gets there.

Thanks! This helped. Also I will be living with my mother once he leaves just to make things easier. Does this effect my BAH?

Your BAH is based off your zip code, not your personal living situation.  You'll still get the same amount as you would if you were living on your own.

I should have mentioned, the cost of the uniforms is significant.  I've heard recently $1200 or $1600, but again I can't check my husband's statements right now to see what they charged him.  It's deducted automatically.

Ok thanks!

I'm sorry to jump into the conversation, but my husband just left to great lakes today, and no one has told me that i should receive bah while he is in bootcamp, which im glad that En Turtle replied with an awesome response to a really good question,so thank you. by any chance do either of you know where i can find out how much i should expect my husbands check to be, because im trying figure out the bills as well. thank you.

This is the one that I've used:  http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bahCalc.cfm

I'm sure there are others.

So I just went into the recruiters office with my husband last week to ask all these questions. He then told me what his pay will be which was 1400 or so and that is with out taxes taken out. His first pay will basically go all to paying for his uniforms but you will still get all your bah. The bah is by zip code. I'm sure if you go on Google and research this u could find it. The recruiter told me the numbers. Also bah has no taxes.

thank you sooo much
