Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi, I'm asking this for the benefit of my DIL.  My son left for bootcamp on 8/20. Not surprisingly my DIL has not received yet the form she needs to get an ID card as it has only been 10 days.  But she needs to see a doctor this week.  Is there anywhere she can call to see if she has been entered into DEERS yet?  Further complicating this is the fact that he was moved from a regular division to a 900 division in the middle of P-days.  The 2 divisions were at different points in processing so some of his paperwork appointments may have been missed in the shuffle.  Any help would be really appreciated.

She will need to call Tricare for her region and they can direct her. She won't know she's enrolled until she receives her DD1172 to go get her ID but her benefits will be retroactive to the time her husband arrived at bootcamp. So if she sees a doctor now, since her husband is already at bootcamp her appointment will be covered. She'll have to talk to Tricare to see if she needs some kind of temp card or if she will have to submit the bill for reimbursement though because I'm not sure of the specifics.

One thing she'll learn really quickly is to memorize her hubby's social security number, so have that handy when she calls.  I know my husband's better than my own.  

She should call Tricare directly, and she can look online to see if she is enrolled.  If all she has is his SSN, most doctors offices know how to process the claim without the actual ID card.

We called Tricare and at the time of the call she was not yet in the system.  They said if she had a POA that specifically gave her permission to change Tricare items she could go to any of the bases that  issue IDs with that & the other documentation & get added immediately to Tricare & get an ID.  Well, her POA didn't specify Tricare (because we didn't see that suggested anywhere in the info on POAs for spouses - now we know).  We called 5 different places near us.  4 did not answer the phone.  Finally one did & we explained the situation.  She hesitated & told us to come on in, they would probably do it anyway.  The next day we went in & she was in the system (it had happened overnight LOL).  Anyway she was able to get the ID without the DD1172 & she went to the doctor.  I don't know who maintains the info on Navy for Moms but maybe something could be added to the POA info.  Those info pages have been unbelievable helpful to us.

Look for whoever made the first post on the POA, contact them, or add a reply with this experience.  Probably just another user like you and me, certainly no one official.  User lemonelephant, I think.    She does a lot on here.
