Hey ladies!! :) so my boyfriend is leaving December 4th, which means he's going to miss Christmas. He'll also be gone for our one year anniversary! We're gonna do Christmas early, and I really want to get him something he can take with him to remind him of me in boot camp. But as far as I know, what they're allowed to bring is very limited. We are both Christians, so I was thinking of either getting him a cross necklace with something engraved on it, or a personalized bible. I can't think of anything else he would be allowed to take. Any ideas? Opinions? Thank you! It's much appreciated ♥

I dont know about the necklace thing but I dont think they can take a bible. My sailor was in bootcamp for christmas. He requested that I dont get him anything until after bootcamp. He wanted to be able to have something he actually wanted that he could use. You can send him pictures in bootcamp but imo I would suggest waiting. During bootcamp I got a bunch of pictures of us together and got a photo album and filled it partially and sent it to him during a school. We filled the rest of it between a school and his first deployment. Again thats just my opinion.

He cannot take anything with him unfortunately. My sailor had to send everything back, and got written up in bootcamp for keeping/wearing one of my hair ties on his wrist :/ they are VERY strict about this
They are allowed to take a small Bible. My husband, my son, and I (all at different times, my son was just a year ago though) were all able to take one.

That would be something he could have. The necklace is very questionable / grey area. They can have one small religious medallion, but while a cross is a religious symbol, it's not exactly a medallion, so, especially at boot camp.....

I would get a Bible - in fact, if you look online, you can even find them specifically for Sailors - they are very nice small bibles with stuff like the Navy hymn in it as well. He would be allowed to have it. (This is the one we sent with our son, and I gave one to my husband before a deployment. They store easy and are "full size" not just N.T.)
When did your son go? My fiance went in february to boot camp and wasnt even allowed to take the small one because they already have them there (their excuse, not mine). His was sent back in the box :(
Brian has been in a year. If you go to
bootcamp.navy.mil/what_to_bring.asp

It tells what they can have. A "pocket Bible" is on the ok list. If the one they took was too big, then that could be why he was made to send it back, but they are allowed to have it.
That is why I would suggest looking at that "Sailor's Bible" that I mentioned, if this is what you want to get him. (They have them on Amazon.)

Are the Sailor's Bibles pocket sized?

You can take a bible and they are allowed to wear one necklace tell them its religious which it is. My sailor told me so, both ideas are great u should do both.
