Hi all,

My name is Patricia, and my husband is currently completing his boot camp training at the Great Lakes Naval Base in IL. We were just married in January so I am a brand new Navy wife. :)

He is scheduled to graduate on April 10th, and we've been discussing what happens that weekend in our letters and during our few phone calls. I've done research online and asked around but I am getting mixed responses.

If he is due for A-School in TX on Monday and he graduates on a Friday, will I have the weekend with him or just the night? Will he be able to stay with me if I am in a hotel ON base? Is the curfew usually enforced? Will I be able to see him off at the airport?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm eager to spend time with my husband :). Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm dating a sailor and we've been together almost 2 years. Together 4 months before he joined and left for basic where your husband is. Ok so he won't be able to stay with you overnight in the hotel. I didn't find that out till I got there! But he will have a curfew. I believe its 7 or 8. I didn't see my boyfriend for a few months while he was in the training. Saw him that day of his graduation. Took him back to his schooling. Then he was due at the airport the next morning.to be in by CA by Monday. He isn't given a choice of when he can fly out. They arrange all that before hand. And I didn't get to talk to my boyfriend the last week of basic. To figure all the details out so I didn't know. Just stay positive for you and for him. And be extra positive for deployments and such because that's what will get them through! Reminding them that you aren't going anywhere! And how much u love them. And make plans for when he's home! That will give them hope. Something to look forward to on their bad days. My boyfriend didn't go on deployment until he was in exactly a year. But it all depends on what job they have and where they are needed. Good luck :) I hope this helps!:)

Thank you ts0607! Yes, that is helpful. :)

That is what I am expecting but I hear different things all the time. E.g. a co-worker that was in years ago said that he had the whole weekend with his family as long as he was back on base by Sunday night. I soooooo wish that was the case but know that will most likely not happen. I'm happy to see him whether it's for a couple hours or a couple nights!

The ones who had schooling at Great Lakes used to get the whole weekend, but that policy changed several years ago.

When I attended PIR last April I know the ones that were staying in Great Lakes had liberty all weekend. Not sure if it's changed since then.

My husband left for A School in Texas after boot camp as well. His flight left Saturday morning around 10am I believe. He had to be back on base Friday night by curfew so we brought him back 30-45 minutes earlier so he could make it back to the ship in time. We were able to meet him at the airport when they got there around 4am and stayed with him until he left. He can request a gate pass for you as well so you can go through security and wait with him at the gate.

As far as I know the only ones that get to stay the weekend are those that are staying in Great Lakes for A School. Everyone else usually flies out Saturday from what I remember.

I hope that helps - let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you, Sammy! What did your husband have a contract for? Mine's is Master at Arms.

My pleasure! My husband is a Corpsman.

Sounds great! :)

Hey there! I am a new Navy wife as well I was married in December, my hubby left in January, and just graduated a few weeks ago. You will most likely not have the weekend. You will have probably about 7 hours give or take to spend with him the day he graduates and then he will have to return back to his division. He will not get to spend the night out unfortunately. But you can go to the airport and hangout with him till his flight leaves. He will know his flight info the day of graduation :) Good Luck! Graduation is exciting :)
However, since he's leaving Monday you might get more time but I still don't think he can spend the night.

Thanks WifeofaUSsailor! That's helpful. Is your husband in A-School now? I'm sure this is all just as new and excited for you as it is for me :)

You're so welcome! :) yes he is here in Pensacola for about 7 months or longer. It has been a crazy new adventure but lots of fun for sure!
