I have been absent from this site lately, because I have been one busy lady! I had a whole wedding to plan in just a month's time, and I'm proud to say it was a success! My sailor made it home on the 22nd, and we were married on the 23rd - then remarried again on the 27th, officially, in the eyes of the state, haha.

Anyway, here is our situation - my sailor is currently in A school. His estimated graduation will be in late February. When he gets back to Pensacola, he will take care of all of the DEERS paperwork and get whatever is necessary rolling. I guess my question is what do I do in the interim? I'm located in New York right now, and the tentative plan is for me to stay in Pensacola while he's in training - however, I'm not sure if that is financially wise at the moment. I would only be there two months, and with my sailor in A school, I'm not sure what kind of assistance to expect from the Navy.

I guess you can say I'm pretty much lost. Help?

You probably will not get any assistance from the navy to move to there while he is in A school, they usually do not move you. since you are married though he should start getting bah but that can take a bit to get. once he gets his orders they will pay to move you to his new duty station, provided they are accompanied orders.
You are currently at the moment in New York or Pensacola? If you are in New York like jde said, you will not get assistance from the Navy to be moved. You would have to move from NY to Pensacola on your own dime and that's expensive. As far as housing... You will get BAH, but it could take two or more pay cycles to kick in so you may not see that until his training is almost done. So do you have enough money to live somewhere without it? Now let's talk about living. I'm not sure if he will be allowed to live off base with you... He will know more about the school's rules. But you will have a very tough time trying to find somewhere to rent to you for only two months. You will have to find somewhere willing to do a month to month lease and they usually require first and last month's rent up front as a security deposit. Also rent tends to be more when you are on month to month lease. Another option would be living in a hotel for two months. That's not fun (trust me. I work in hotels). My advice would be to stay put. It's only two months... Less by the time he goes back to school. When he gets his orders they will pay to move you to where ever he is.

Congratulations!

The other ladies are correct, you won't be moved to P-cola, BAH can take up to two months to kick in, and your stay in P-cola would be completely out of pocket.  Probably a rent by the week place, and those are shady.   Two months is no time at all if you've been waiting up until now.   Plus the less often the BAH changes location, the less often PSD has a chance to screw it up.

I take it he does not have his orders yet.  When he does, you will be moved from wherever you reside to his new duty station (unless he gets an odd set of unaccompanied orders, but don't worry about that unless it actually happens).  If you go to P-cola, you can't leave anything behind in New York and expect the Navy to move it for you.   They will move you and your stuff from point a to point b, but not your household goods if they are stored elsewhere.

The other ladies pretty much summed it up :) I would personally stay back and save more money for the upcoming move to where ever his orders will be. Trust me even with the Navy help you might pay some out of pocket with it. BAH could take some time and they def wont move ya, They cant tell you where you can or cant move but they dont have to help you get there. Like Anti M said its only two months, I know it seems like a lonnnggg time but believe me in the long run the extra two months of saving will be worth it and the couple months will be a drop compared to a lifetime with your husband. I struggled with this too but honestly its really not worth it, and a lot of the week by week places down in pcola are not the best. and then if he is AM I am pretty sure they dont do live ashore chits for them so he couldnt live with you really. and He would spend a lot of time having to studying on base and until he hits phase 3 he would be staying on base at nights on the weekend.
