OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Wondering about random info to keep me busy...
Okay, so my boyfriend is in boot camp and he graduates Friday. Tonight is an important night, I know he will do fine but if I don't keep my mind busy I start panicking and pacing around. LOL. Anyway, he told me on Thanksgiving that he wants to get married right after his first deployment. He didn't have his orders yet but at the time he is guessing he will be deployed by like mid January (I think that's what he said, I got a little lost in his explanation). Anyway I'm just wondering about random things that go along with getting married to the Navy, haha. I will be in school until the end of April 2014, so even if we get married I will be staying put and finishing school. I'm trying to figure out if it will be a smart (or just not completely stupid) idea financially. I am in a very time consuming program and also taking extra classes and thinking about double majoring. I live with my mom who pays for all of my living expenses and my dad covers a lot of my costs (phone, insurance, extra spending money, etc.) so I'm not sure how much my parents would be willing to continue paying for if I get married. Plus when I graduate I will have about 20,000-22,000 in student loans. So the finances of getting married scare me a little. Also if anyone has any info about working on a base as a civilian that would be cool. I am going to be a dental hygienist and that would mean that every time we move I would have a state board (pretty sure that's about $2,000) to take to get my licence to practice in that state. My mom thought she read something about the military needing dental hygienists. Who knows!!! Well, any info to keep me busy while I worry all night would be nice (:

I don't know the details of this so you would have to look into it, but over the past few years they have passed some laws making it easier (and cheaper!) for military spouses with careers in areas like this that require state by state certifications to get qualified in each place.
It might be worth looking into that as well. -

I was wondering if there was some sort of military clause in the laws. I will add it to the list of things to look into :)

oh gotcha! Just wondering! lol :) Always something new to learn with the Navy. My friends husband new before he went to his training where he would be stationed is that typical of undes?

Yeah, they all find out in boot camp I think. My boyfriend is going to Washington on the Nimitz.

What would probably happen is the Navy would give him BAH for your zip code for a while, but there is a time limit. It varies by command, so it could be six months, it could be a few weeks. Then they'll change the BAH to the zip code of his duty station and require him to either move out of the barracks or pay for a geobachelor room. It isn't very expensive if he's living in one of the regular barracks and not one of the suites style (only big bases have those). He can even live on the ship if that's where he's stationed, or share a place offbase with other guys. In any case, he will be pulling BAH of some type, every married sailor does. Just how it is spent will be the sticky part, and how the Navy will treat a long distance marriage. They do look for fraud, because people do marry just for the benefits.
I'm sure you two will get it worked out. Waiting until after the first big deployment works well for some couples, others find marriage first them. Let him get out of boot camp, out of the emotional pressure cooker, so he can talk it over with you with a clear head. -

Such good advice/info. I'm definitely going to talk to him about it a little this weekend but we'll probably really go through the details when he has leave before going to Washington. I just wanted to see if it was even very realistic to think we could get married before I'm out of school. We'll have to work out timing because I'm not sure if it will really work out now. If we do decide we want to get married before I'm out of school so you have any idea of who I (or he) is supposed to go to to go over all of this stuff?
