I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

Thank you LuvASub, Hoppi, and Cassandra for your quick responses! It was definitely helpful to learn that the marriage documents should be submitted between 3 weeks to a month before he gets his orders. I know he is checking out this info too, but I will relay this to him also.

Having only been part of the military life for a few months now, I have also seen ladies rush into marriage. My sailor is 23 and I am 21. We are at the age where we are definitely ready to settle down and start life together. No worries about rushing it, this has been on the agenda for some time now. =)

For those that are married, when did you do it and how did it all turn out?

SailorMoesGirl- "We want to make sure that as soon as he gets his permanent duty station, I will be able to join him there." Bottom line is if you want to be on his orders guaranteed you have to be married and all the paperwork completed (and oh is there a lot of it) 3 weeks prior to him getting his orders. Meaning you gotta do it asap. I would literally do it as soon as possible just to be safe. Even if its just going down to the courthouse in your jeans for now to make it official, than having a wedding later.... but this is only if you're SURE you guys are going to get married either way. No sense in rushing things just for benefits. (not saying that you are, I just see it way too often :/ )

Congrats on the marriage sschick02! I have read about the whole process going on for you, and I really do wish you the best! I hope you keep us updated on what transpires.

In other respects, it appears as though getting married in a-school is a good idea? My boyfriend (who just got to a-school in San Diego on Saturday) and I have been discussing what we should do. We have been planning on getting married since well before he left for boot camp, but now we are planning on having me fly out and getting married one weekend before he gets his orders. This should be possible right? He is on hold for 2 months then has another 2 months of schooling. We want to make sure that as soon as he gets his permanent duty station, I will be able to join him there.

Thanks for any advise! =)

I had a quicky wedding in Pensacola showed up at the courthouse at 4 on a friday and was married by 5:30 the same day!!!!! Well worth getting done before A school was over!!!!!

Thank you. I live in IL so that was what I was expecting. I actually checked into getting married quickie in MS but the rules of the state prevented it with the timing we were working with when it all unfolded. I am going to do some investigating on possibly doing a job transfer to that state - if that works out it could make all the difference in the timing. I will keep you all posted.
Comment by Anti M on May 25, 2010 at 12:31pm
Sschick, I wouldn't say your marriage was a mistake at all, just that the timing could have been better. Sounds like his A school was quite short, and that complicates things. Sometimes you can't make ideal choices. I think the point is to help others make more informed decisions. Like don't put Hawaii on the dream sheet unless the sailor is going to a school where they get E-4 as part of the contract!

For those who are going to school in Illinois, they don't require blood tests and the waiting period is only 24 hours. That's what I read on the county clerk website.

You have an interesting journey before you, I hope you do continue to share the ups and downs.

Did we get congratulations in amidst the chatter?

I don't mind to tell my story above but I don't see how we (I) made a mistake. We followed the rules and didn't get married during graduation weekend. The only thing we could have tried to do different is squeeze in a JOP wedding in Mississippi during the 4 weeks he was there with their rules for a marriage license. That was nearly impossible though because of their rules on applying for the license and the blood tests and blah blah and me being 10 hours away from there. But I suppose if you just make sure your "legally married" before his orders come through then you are in the clear. He talked to his Chief at A School and I talked to his Recruiting Chief when we found out that he did get orders to HI; even after he tried to change the dream sheet that he was told was a "draft" and he was told not to worry that no one got their 1st choice and no one gets HI - but he did get it. I don't know. It's just frustrating. But I'm not throwing in the towel yet - we will see what happens.

i have a question, I'm getting married here pretty soon (next Saturday), and i was curious about the GI Bill. The Navy helps pay for my mans college, but do they help me too. Or how does all that work?
Comment by navywife72 on May 25, 2010 at 10:58am
Thank you again Anti M .... your a life saver I didnt even think of that and pretty much everything is new and still in the original packaging
Comment by Anti M on May 25, 2010 at 9:53am
I agree with Hoppi, Sschick, your experience will be invaluable to the other women here. You will not be eligible for Navy housing at all, not unless his command decides to approve your command sponsorship. That can take months and is not guaranteed. The good news is that Hawaii is America and no one can stop you from going, and you can work there legally.
