man that's sort of discouraging. I'm a Navy brat but my husband is just graduating 02/26. I just assumed when we got our first orders they would just move us like they always did for us when my dad was in. Is there any way of expiditing the process?

Depends on the type of move. They still do the big packouts, but there are more DIY moves now.

Wow serious? 4 months? so we will have to pay for our move once we have PCS orders and then wait to be reimbursed? Years ago we just received an estimate and then they paid for it up to a certain poundage... but that was almost 30 years ago...

You know, I think I did get a tricare card once upon a time... we're talking 20 years ago. I put it away and never used it. Yes, all they want is that military ID card. My PCM changes so often I don't actually know who it is anymore; I've had three deploy on me in two years.
When I was very little, dad came back from a long deployment. He'd made chief and had changed uniforms from the crackerjacks and the dixie cup to the khakis. I don't remember it, but mom says I started crying and very loudly screamed for my "real daddy" when he went to pick me up. I was under three, which is why I have no memory of it. So if the child is used to one uniform, be sure to have some pictures of any other uniform too... tiny kids can be easily confused by external clues and images.

I don't have any children but i have an idea. Obviously you don't need to do this.
One idea that my boyfriend wanted me to do for when we do have kids is to get an elmo doll for the child. My bf is really good at doing the elmo voice. You can always have a doll around as a reminder. One thing you can do is go to the build-a-bear workshop or something similar to that, have your husband record his voice, a special message for your daughter, and put it into the doll. Just a thought.
Another is always the picture in the locket, when she's old enough you can give it to her.

You can send pictures too, but they don't have much space to keep things. A good way is to print pictures on the back of the letter!
Your health insurance will be back dated from day one, but it will take a few weeks for the paperwork to kick in once he gets to boot camp. He has to enroll you in DEERS in addition to putting you on his page two, then enroll in Tricare. They will assist him with getting this done correctly in boot camp. Ask the recruiter about what he needs to take with him i.e. marriage certificate, birth certificates, and if they need to be originals or certified copies. Your military ID will be your health card too. Find providers who take Tricare and explain the situation to them, so will adjust the billing and payments until you are covered.
I've always had a military ID since I was 8 years old, that thing is like GOLD.
So ladies, did you get your IDs while your sailor was in BC or wait until later?

@ brittne216 Thats what this website is here for girl, support! :P As far as I know, deployments can be really tough, and having people around you as a support group really can help you out. Just stay busy and the time will fly. This site has so many great people on it that can offer their insight.. Im glad you've joined!!
