For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Doesn't the base have a program where you can sign up to offer services? I think they provide some training such as first aid and CPR and then put you on a list. I know they used to have this on base in Japan, just thought I'd throw it out there in case SD had it too. Check with family services.

Denise: I went to my hubby's PIR on 12/30 and my son is 2 years old, but it went very smoothly! We were very blessed and flew my MIL out to meet us in Chicago and she drove the rental car b/c it was cheaper (I am under 25) and she is used to driving in the snow and it was nice to have some alone time w/him! We got her a room across the hall from us and our son slept in the room with her-it was great! But I know, not everyone is able to do this :( I wish I had more advice on the traveling system...sorry

I hope you get the chance to see him soon, and not in front of an audience.
I worked with my husband before we married, not only could we not show PDA, we had to hide our dating!!! So I understand how frustrated you must be. I'd be in a bad mood too.

At the PIR, indoors, everyone is happy and celebrating, so there's tons of hugging and kissing. The Navy understands that. What is a no-no, is PDA while on liberty, in town. He's worke hard for his uniform and is proud of his service, he now represents the US Navy and America. So you should respect his service and hard work also, and be mindful of the fact that he isn't there just for you anymore. He's there for all of us now! Military bearing is a mark of pride and professionalism. So keep it private, okay?
I'm a Navy vet, I appreciate their service, and your support.

At my hubby's PIR we never got in trouble for PDA...we were kissing and hugging! I mean nothing disgusting but still, we never got in trouble :)

Dress nice, but dress for the variable weather. And don't look skanky, look classy in your hotness. But waterproof mascara, and kissable lipstick, and wear shoes which won't break your ankles.
Don't forget your birth control... seriously. LOL. No, seriously, this is a bad time to get knocked up, you'll end up moving when you're due or wrangling a newborn.
Yes, you can count on me to embarrass the snot of of some of you. That's why I bothered to live this long.
