I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

Uh, Lindsey... if he has watch and you show up, he can potentially get in trouble. Mostly grumped at, but if you interfere with his duties, he pays the price. Most of all, he must not miss muster! And he may have duty in a secure area where you will not be allowed entry. What will you do then until he's off watch? You're a GF, you will have to be escorted the entire time you are on base, no wandering around on your own. Have you checked this out all the way through? The friend getting you on base must stay with you until your BF can escort you, but you cannot wander the base alone. Maybe he can find out your BF's duty schedule.

Ask him! A surprise is nice, but not when it gets him busted.

I'm headed out, see y'all in a while. Going where there is no internet!

J have been doing this all my life. I was raised Navy, so it seemed normal to me for dad to leave. I moved away from my family with little thought. And I married Navy. even now he has a job which takes him away from home.

You learn how to do this one day at a time. You learn how to communicate, what to say to bring you closer not drive you apart. You learn that it is about sacrifice, and how that makes the time together so much richer. Women that have their men full time don't always appreciate the fullness of a good relationship. We rarely argue, because we have had so much time apart, we make the best of our daily lives and don't let petty BS bog us down.

You learn to be independent, to make the best of yourself for him and for yourself. You aren't the focus, your relationship is the main thing. Any girl who has to be catered to and reassured constantly isn't going to make a Navy wife. You will doubt yourself, doubt the long nights alone, but only briefly. Because in the long run it is all worth it. 22 years and I'm happy as happy can be.

And then there's the homecomings... a lifetime of honeymoons!

LOL, I haven't been in Glakes since 1980~81.

Hey, Utah's near water, we have the Great Salt Lake.

And I'm maggiemayday on twitter, although once we head out, I'll be completely offline for over a week.

Smoke, the Navy is what it is and you just have to deal with it as best you can. Eventually it brings more good than bad.

Look me up on couchsurfing.com, I'm listed as Anti M there. You can see my house... I live in Utah so you may have to travel for that coffee!

NYNG... sounds like he's on track. He should wait until he reports to prototype. He will have a different COC from A school, no need to repeat the paperwork. He can ask the timeline when he gets there.

Smoke, I feel awful for you because I know exactly how the Navy works.

I may pop in tomorrow, then I'm off to Burning Man and will be out of touch for a while.

Everyone, don't panic! Just make sure your sailor has checked things out from his end!

Yes, sailors in A school are supposed to ask permission to marry. It is rarely refused unless one of you is under 18. Technically, all sailors are supposed to inform their commands beforehand. I had to my first time, I was overseas and an E-5.. The next time I was an E-6 and married another E-6. We were between commands, so it wasn't as critical. We both had Top Secret clearances, so it wasn't much of an issue.

Prototype is still training. The nuke field is especially sensitive to changes in status. Yes, spouses are checked out by the FBI in conjunction with Homeland Security. You may not "go through" a full on security clearance, but they will take a look at who you are, criminal record, radical groups, citizenship. Mostly a matter of public record that anyone who knows how could look up. Some debt is okay.

Smoke, I think you're fine, ETs are less critical than nukes. I worry about nukes, there are so many rules. I can understand your frustration, the Navy isn't about easy, is it?
Comment by Anti M on August 27, 2009 at 9:30am
Courtney, from what I've read, Smoke's fiance is doing it the right way and going through the Navy for permission to get married. There's a lot of paperwork involved. They get really ticked off if the sailor just goes and gets married, especially in A school. Just going down to the JP can cost the sailor an A school ... why? If he has to have a security clearance, you have to be cleared also. I know some guys just go get married, but the Navy really, really hates that.

So Courtney, does your nuke have permission to marry? Because in Nuke school he CAN lose that security clearance. He may still be in the Navy, but he won't be a nuke anymore. Do it right, by the Navy's rules. If he says he doesn't need to? He is dead wrong. I've actually seen this happen in the past. I don't want you to worry, but I also don't want you to rush into marriage uninformed and potentially ruin his career.
