I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

Allison, single sailors often do get overseas orders as a first assignment,  in some ratings.  It is the married ones they try not to give those orders to.

Stephanie, he will likely lose that first set of orders if it needs to be filled right away.  If it is not "hot", it might be held for him.  A school sailors rarely get the chance to speak to a detailer, so he has to be certain his dream sheet is filled out requesting commands or ships located in the SD area.

Stephanie, it is totally dependent on the needs of the Navy and availability of billets. Given that San Diego is a "hub" for the Navy, and you cannot (usually) be overseas your first permanent duty station, it is likely he will be at San Diego, Virginia Beach, or Norfolk, though there are a few other bases of course in the US. The only change would be if something opens up for a joint forces command or his C school is or he is reassigned to one that is 6+ months, qualifying it as a permanent duty station, that would open up the whole world for him pretty much. I hope that helps. If he has more questions, he should set up an appointment with his detailer, his detailer should be his best friend anyway, as this combined with communicating with superiors and hard work will ensure he gets recommended and selected for the billets he wants and/or the billets that are best suited for his career and personal goals.

Hi! I don't know if any of you can help me, but I figured I'd give it a try! My boyfriend told me tonight that he didn't pass his block test for the second time in a school. So he's pushed behind. He doesn't know how long. He got his orders and will be going to San Diego, but that was before his failed tests. Since he will get done with a school later, will he still go to San Diego or will his orders change because he is graduating later?

Your sailor will need to contact base legal and/or the state department to see how to marry a non-citizen, whether you will need a fiance visa, and how to get you a green card.  Getting married is the easy part, getting the paperwork done to make you a legal resident is complicated.

HM C schools are not guaranteed, but he can ask.  Pharmacy tech school is 23 weeks.   i could not find the optician tech C school information, but it would be guaranteed to be quite long also.

Gaia, is your fiancé a soldier or a sailor? And he has medical insurance now, you will get it once you get married and he adds you as his spouse on his info with the navy. But don’t make that be the reason you get married. Get married when you both are ready to be. Vision through tricare (military medical insurance) only covers an exam, it won’t cover glasses or Contacts or a contact exam. Your pharmacy benefits will vary so you’ll just need to figure that out when the time comes. Hope this helps!

Nicole.dm, they do encourage them to sign up for Navy Fed when they enter boot camp because as a credit union they offer a lot of benefits to members and their families. When my husband was in boot camp he joined Navy Fed but still had his paycheck deposited into his Wells Fargo account so I had access to pay his bills and such. We didn't switch over to using Navy Fed as our main bank until a year, or maybe longer, after he was out of boot camp. So yeah, she may have signed up but she could still have her pay deposited to your joint account. They don't make you deposit your pay into the Navy Fed account when you sign up.

Thank you for the info. I know she took our info, but it did say she was signed up. It's all just so much lol I'm just waiting in a letter or call so j can be clued in to what's going on :)

Hi everybody! I have a question that I hope maybe I can find the answer for here. Do all recruits get signed up for a Navy Fed account, even if they don't use it as direct deposit? I am keeping up with my fiance's email and she got an email from Navy Fed. We had agreed that she would use our joint account, so that I could pay rent and all of that. Question two, if she did do navy fed, will I get her debit card at home, or will she get it there? I'm just so worried about paying my bills for the next 6 weeks.
