Today, I saw my sailor swear in. I feel so lucky and blessed. He flew to basic as well. I locked myself in my room and fell asleep. I was so mad and sad and confused and happy all at the same time! Fortunately, I made plans already in advance to have one of my dear friends come over and just do what dear friends do. :) I am so lucky to be in love with my sailor. I am so proud! I eagerly await seeing him in a few months.
Hey Navyswccgirlfriend!
I completely understand where you are coming from! My boyfriend has been in for a little over a month now but let me tell you it does get easier! The first week is ALWAYS the hardest so keep your chin up, it does get easier I promise! My boyfriend arrived at boot camp on February 10. The box with his stuff came a week on the 17th and then the form letter came the next day. I didn't hear from him until I got a phone call and that was on February 22nd. I didn't receive a letter from him until the Thursday following that, which was the 27th. It varies for everyone but overall, you shouldn't expect to hear from him for another week to two. You won't get a letter from him for about two weeks. So just be prepared for that. I know it's hard and the waiting is miserable but it does get better especially once you get through the first week! Hang in there and start writing him as soon as you can, he will love it and it will help you too!
I can definitely empathize - my husband and I have been together since college (9.5 years!) and got married 7 months ago, and the first week or so it was just hard coming home to an empty apartment when I was so used to him being there every time I came home. But I've learned to embrace this alone time to reorganize our place and do some things on my own for a change. I've also reached out to friends more and have enjoyed hanging out with my girlfriends lately. No matter how much you think you're ready for it before they leave, it's so much different once they are actually gone. But the good thing is you're not alone, a lot of us are going through it with you!!
Hey Navyswcc - my husband arrived on Wed. Feb. 19 and I received a phone call on that following Saturday. I also received a phone call the Saturday after that and last Thursday, but nothing since. I believe they are guaranteed 3 phone calls, but they can also earn additional ones by passing inspections, etc. It's up to the RDC so he can give phone privileges as well as take them away. I promise you it does get easier, just try to keep yourself busy and write a lot of letters!!
Hey Cheyenne! My husband has been at BC for almost 4 weeks now so I can tell you from experience, it does get better! I write him a letter every night before I go to bed telling him about my day so that helps. I just try to stay busy and have been reaching out to friends more now. Chatting with people on this site and on the PIR Facebook page has helped a lot too. As for the phone call, it probably won't come until late tonight when they all get to RTC. It will also be a very short, scripted phone call so be ready for that. You should get a box with his clothes/phone (if he took one)/etc. in a few days, and a form letter with his address and PIR date shortly after that.
Hi y'all! My sailor just left earlier today for boot camp and I'm having a really hard time keeping busy. I'm obviously a new navy wife haha. Work kept me busy for the 5 hours I was there, but now that I'm home and the house is empty and everything reminds me of him I feel worse. Also I was told that he got a 30 second phone call when he got there and I've been waiting all day and I haven't gotten one? Is there any advice y'all have to making it through these two month's ? And could anyone clear up the question on the phone call or around what day he'll call?
You are welcome :) I am the same way! We actually just got our tax return back and since we saved so well last year we both just decided to splurge and each get a good chunk of money to spend on ourselves for whatever we want. lol I am sort of lost as to what I am going to get with it. I hate spending money lol! $250 per port is actually really good! You also got to remember some of them are way more expensive than here. Like Dubai/Bahrain are superrrr expensive. My husband bought a little mini personal pizza and it was $20. It was like one of those mini 4 inch pizzas. My husband spent about $300 in each port approximately. Ports like Thailand that money went really far. My husband sent me home like 20 gifts from Thailand because a lot of stuff was so cheap there. I would suggest maybe every month set aside a certain amount of money so that he has that when he goes into port. So it wont seem so much like he is taking $250 in one day but over the course of two months. :) I know sailors that will drop $1-2 grand in port with having a family back home that needs the money. I always count myself lucky that my husband doesn't spend like crazy even though I stay on him about how much money we spend lol.
