OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. You get the family separation pay which is like 250 a month. And when they're in the 5th fleet they get an extra 150 a month for hazardous duty pay, but that's only for the time they're in the 5th fleet. The biggest part about them being in the 5th fleet is any money they make during that time is not taxed. So that'll add a little extra to their paycheck also.

Other than those 3 things, I can't think of any extra pay when they're deployed. I definitely wouldn't be expecting an extra 2000. Count on the regular paycheck and anything extra is bonus. :)

That all said... It may seem like he's making an extra 2000 a month when he's out to sea and not spending money! You can save a lot of money when your husband is out to sea, especially if they don't hit port often and/or he's conservative about spending when he is in port (which is not my husband, but we still saved a large amount of money regardless).

My husband seemed to think it was about $2000 extra he would be getting a month. Which I am not so sure of that one. Can anyone help me out with this?

Comment by meagan5220 on March 6, 2014 at 1:33am: Let me rephrase that first part, it might be hard to get an appt up there considering that's not your primary care facility and the only day you would have available while they are open would be Friday afternoon, and idk if they would accept you if you were technically not assigned there.

Comment by meagan5220 on March 6, 2014 at 1:32am: I don't think you would be able to get an ultrasound probably unless you somehow got it schedule for that Friday afternoon. Prime can also be prickly about ultrasounds I have heard. Idk for sure all the rules, but depending on how far along you are, I know a lot of people around where I live will go get a 3D ultrasound. There are places you can get appointments outside of your insurance. You have to pay it out of pocket but I know places around me are usually like $80-100. They give you a CD with all the pictures.

Im assuming the base has a hospital but i can't find the website or phone # so i can make an apt. are there any other suggestions on where i should go to do this? I have tricare prime.
