I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

My fiancé and I have been struggling with a package getting delivered, and I was hoping you might have an explanation. My fiancé has checked the post every day (excluding Sunday) since I received notice his package was delivered, which was Thursday. At first, we thought it had to go through extra sorting or something, but now it's Monday, and it seems a little ridiculous. I worry about the package getting returned or that it was delivered to the wrong post somewhere off base. He is at Great Lakes. I'm currently waiting on a call back from USPS, but any insights from you ladies would be helpful.

This may be old news, but it's new to me! I just wanted to let spouses know that TurboTax lets you file federal and state for free E1-E5! I've always liked using them, but that just makes me appreciate them even more!

Challenge coins are nice, but not something he'll want to carry around with him. No way to display them, and they are pretty easy to have stolen.

They simply were not a thing when I was active duty, or my husband, or my three war father, even though the coin makers claim they have a long history.  Still, they are quite nice and will look good in a shadow box.

I was an ET, and I had a cheap pocket watch because I could not wear one when working on the gear.  I had some plain watches too, very basic ones, but the technology wasn't in place yet. I also had a couple nice watches for dressy occasions.  I'm a jewelry girl though, so I did love me some watches.

A colored face, maybe, depends on the overall look.  Back lighting is fine, makes it easy to see in his rack when the berthing lights are down.  Seiko is good quality, so it would work nicely too.  Noting says he can't have a work watch, a pocketwatch, and a dress watch.  You'd be set for gifts for years that way ....

Is color acceptable as far as back lighting, illumination, or a colored face? I've noticed these are popular on tactical watches for viewing purposes in poorly lit conditions. I assume they mean just no bright colors for bands. That's really good to know about silver for enlisted.

Has anyone had experience with Seiko? I know this is a brand he's coveted, I think it has to do with his love of James Bond, but I don't want to go with that if it's not going to meet his needs. I looked into the G-Shock after you guys posted about it, and they actually do seem to be some of the best and are highly recommended on other sites as well. Plus, I haven't been steered wrong yet on this website…the challenge coins from pirgifts.com are legitimate and beautiful by the way for anyone wondering about a nice PIR gift. It's been mentioned a few times on different boards here. I picked it over the one offered at the RTC because it was specific to his ship, and I although I was nervous about ordering off eBay, I was not disappointed when it arrived. It came with a brief history of the ship as well. Highly recommended.

You did make me aware of another question, what kind of watch functions does a sailor need? He is at school for ET at the moment if that helps determine what he might need. I've also heard that sometimes they cannot have jewelry on certain jobs, so does a watch count and would I be better off getting him a pocket watch? I'd ask him all these questions, but I don't want to give too much away that would ruin the surprise. All I've done so far is encourage him to hold off on buying a watch right now since he's on hold and worry about it when it gets closer to the time for him to class up. He thinks I'm encouraging him to save up to buy what he really needs later instead of just buying something to get by, but really I'm trying to beat him to it haha. I'd love to have something sporty and that covers as many bases for him as possible, but I would also like it to be somewhat elegant as he's never owned a nice watch before, and I would like something that I could take to be engraved.

My husband, who is retired Navy, loves his G-Shock. It is one tough watch.   Watch Amazon for sales, there are many varieties. I paid under $200 for his, and it was about half off.

As for the uniform regulation, it simply states not faddish, so conservative.  No bright colors for sure. Black is the usually accepted color, and nothing over-sized. Enlisted sailors usually wear silver if you go for anything in metal tones.

Thank you! I will definitely look into those.
Comment by WifeofaUSsailor on March 11, 2016 at 7:23pm
Oh also Allison, I just looked it up online. There's a serious of the Master of G shocks but the one I got for my husband was about $300 which is pricey but some on there for upwards of $500 to $1000 and you definitely don't have to spend that to get a good watch.
