I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

Anti M, you are an absolute angel on this site. I feel like I can always trust your answers, so for now, it's indoor life for my two kitties.

I figure no matter what, someone will get upset like you said. I understand why, while we signed up for this life when he enlisted and had time to adjust to it, our friends and extended family didn't get a choice, and I don't think anyone really knows what to expect, especially since it's different for everyone. For example, some of my fiancé's friends were upset when he didn't come back to visit after basic like another one of their friends that is in the military was able to do. Anyway, I think your handwritten card idea is a great one. We had debated a formal announcement, but I think even a short handwritten note on each of them will help people understand that we still love and respect them enough to send more than a mass printed announcement.

I have no idea what to wear to graduation next Friday 3/18! I'm stressing out I don't want to be over or under dressed

As for marriage, just do it and send a nice hand written card to the people who will want to know. No matter what you do, someone will be upset or tactless. Do what is best for you.

Outdoor cats will depend on the rules at different places. Having moved with cats, from Japan to San Diego, to Utah, it is best to turn them into indoor cats after the move. They get stressed and confused and may try to go "home".

@Allison my husband and I got married while he was in A School (way easier for us when it came time to moving). There's a "Texas Twogether" program that has an online option - that's what we did prior to the courthouse ceremony. It was self paced so we worked it around the intensity of his study schedule. Don Lang is who married us and he was amazing. We're doing our big ceremony/con-validating our wedding in our church for our 1 year anniversary. Message me if you have any questions :)

As far as question 2, we put down 1 dog on our app and when we adopted 1 we didn't have to update it. They don't check up on pets unless they cause issues from what I've seen so far (we've lived in base for like 5 months)

Thank you to those of you offered your insight about helping my sailor life his spirits. He's been in a much better mood after getting to play games with fellow sailors inbetween their cleaning responsibilities. I have two new questions for you guys now.

1) My fiancé and I are preparing to officially tie the knot. I asked him to do the classes first if possible just to be sure he's ready to do it now. I've also been receiving some religious premarital counseling. It was something we originally intended to do together, but this is Navy life haha. Anyway, our only issue is that people have been waiting for us to finally have our wedding for awhile now, but we are interested in having a legal wedding first to get the ball rolling and one day in the future when his schedule allows, having some kind of anniversary party for our friends and family. I was curious if anyone on here has done something similar and how you managed announcing your marriage to people who were expecting to attend a ceremony. At this point, our parents are the only people we're including in our plans, so I'm worried it will be a shock to everyone else that we went ahead and got married without them. Advice?

2) In Navy housing, I've read at most stations it's typically 2 pets/home, and at least for Great Lakes, the community handbooks provide the rules for changing litter for cats. I'm curious if anyone knows if outdoor cats are allowed? It would be nice to hear from all your experiences, even if they are not specific to Great Lakes because in my experience, moving is stressful enough on a pet, I don't want to be constantly changing their living habits as well. Our cats are just about to have their first outdoor experience when it gets a little warmer and they are big enough to defend themselves. However, if there's going to be times where they will be required to be indoor cats, I would prefer to avoid confusing them and keep them as indoor cats.

Hang in there Kara! Is your boyfriend in boot camp? Their phone calls can depend on how their division is doing as a whole.

I have a Tricare card. It never seems to do much at the doctors office though, because it doesn't have very much info on it. I always have to give them my sponsor's SSN anyway.
Comment by Anti M on March 8, 2016 at 3:49pm

I have never had, or seen, a Tricare card.  Your military ID is your insurance card.  Check the FAQ on their website, see what they say.
