Rachel, he will most likely fly out to Charleston on the Saturday or Sunday following graduation. He will not be able to bring his cell phone back to his ship with him at boot camp, but if you meet him at the airport, you can hand off his phone, laptop, and anything else he requests to him before he heads off to South Carolina. They're allowed to have that all there.
Also you guys are awesome i have felt so lost and you guys have been there to help!! you have all been awesome!
hard day today.... missing my hubby, i feel like i dont know whats going on. i had no clue he would have to go back to his ship after graduation. i have no idea when he will be in charleston. do they get to use their phones in the ship after graduation? .... im lost
Rachel, the process to get you moved down to Goose Creek will be a fairly quick one. They usually have families moved down there within a week or two of the sailors arriving in Goose Creek. He won't have to put in a live ashore packet if you want to live in base housing, he'll just have to apply with housing and they'll offer him a home. Then he'll be able to help arrange the move.... Generally if you decide to move yourselves and have the Navy reimburse you, they'll give him leave to come home and help you. However, if you decided to have the Navy move you (they'll hire movers to come pack up everything and move it), then the sailors usually don't take leave.
The students usually live in the old housing, "Men Riv A" and "Men Riv B" on the website Anti M linked. If he can, tell him to ask for a renovated home. Even though they all look the same on the outside, the inside is nicer in the renovated old homes than the unrenovated! :)
The base housing in Charleston can be very nice.

You can call the office and ask which neighborhood is open to the students.
