I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

I was told by the PPO office that we hve however long we want to move. Example if my hubs mass orders are for 3 yrs we have 3 yrs to move there and the navy will still pay for it.

My husband just received verbals to Whidbey Island. It was our top pick for orders, only draw back is he is deploying as soon as we move. So I am reaching out to see if there are any wives or girlfiends that I can connect with. I know I will need a good support system while he is gone and I don't have long to make that happen.
Also if anyone had any experience with weather our move would still be paid for if we waited till after his deployment? I figured not but just thought I would check to see if anyone knew. Would be easier to stay here while he's gone.
TIA!!

Yeah, Great Lakes TSC tends to be far stricter than any other school command.

Also, my husband was in phase 3 at that point. He was given permission to stay off of the base the whole weekend. Best bet is to wait until he gets into school and talks to a chief to be on the safe side :)

Ah, that is very different!  They don't do the marriage counseling at RTC, not set up for it anymore.  His RDC will probably tell him to do what he likes because RTC will not have authority over him after PIR.

Once he  graduates, if he checks into TSC (school side of Great Lakes), then he is under their rules.  If he is going to school elsewhere, then he is not attached to RTC or to his new school, it would be like marrying on leave.   Interesting.  Please do let us know how it goes, because this may be useful to other couples in the future.

Mmh028- please be aware that his RDC can tell him it is no big deal to get married PIR weekend, but the reality of that is they aren't in their hands anymore. My husband and I got married while he was in Great Lakes at A school. He had to take a financial course as well as speak with his Chief before the CHIT was approved. In the end, you guys will do what you feel is right, but please know that there is a HUGE possibility that he can end up in trouble later on down the road. Best of luck to you!!

Anti M- we have our Texas License already, his dad is a licensed officiant for the state of Texas. We have already talked to Chicago about it and they said as long as he's from Texas he can do our Texas license, it's just like when people do destination weddings. His friend told him he would go through the counseling in bootcamp, yes that was a few years ago and I do realize things have changed. That's why I'm just gonna wait to here from him because he's gonna be talking to his RDC about it at bootcamp

I can tell you how a marriage is supposed to happen at Great Lakes... just so you have the information.  Of course,  you two can make the final decision.  Short schools, such as the PACT program, don;t care much about the procedure.  Also, if you are pregnant and nearly due, they tend to not hassle the sailor.

First, he is supposed to submit a special request chit and get it signed by his school chain of command. That takes a couple weeks.  He would be directed to take a class on supporting dependents, their benefits, and all the allowances, etc.  Might have to go to the "Don't marry a jerk" class or talk to a chaplain. Then he;d get permission to have you check him out as his liberty buddy and go get the license.  You could marry the next day after that.  If he is in phase three of liberty, he could spend the weekend nights offbase with you.

If you are going to try it PIR weekend, be advised you have to get the license on Friday evening, then marry on Saturday.  Even if his father is doing the ceremony (is he a licensed officiant in Illinois?), the state has a waiting period.  Very short, overnight, but they do have it.

As for his friend's experience, how long ago was it?  The rules have not always been the same, policies change from year to year.  The graduates used to have overnight liberty on PIR, when that went away is about the time they started cracking down on marrying that weekend.

Lizziebear- we aren't planning on like a serious wedding, his dad is marrying us and it'll be quick. Before he left he was told it shouldn't be a problem because his friend did it. I know they don't like it but we figured why not do it there while the family was there. I'm just going to wait to see what he says before I panic. Everyone has told me different things. His friend did it then we've heard they don't like you to so I'm just gonna hear from him and not listen to anyone else lol because technically he will be the one who will know what to do. :)

Emily,

I remember how hard that was when I left Saturday around 3 from seeing my husband off to A school :'(
