Hi Carlsmom. My son moved from RTC to A school at the end of August. It is a couple of miles from the RTC. It took about 3 hours for him to get checked in to A school. Then I signed him out but had to have him back before 10pm. Glad to share what little I know with you. Best of luck to you and your recruit!!
Hi Carlsmom - Not sure how long you sailor will be at GL - as it all depends on when he gets started on his A School - sometimes it takes a while to "Class Up". Other times it is pretty quick, just the luck of the draw I guess :)
My son is at GL waiting to start his A school training for gunners mate. The base where he now lives is just a mile or two from where basic training takes place. It's my understanding that the Training for gunners mate is 150 days.
My son has been 'on hold' for this training since the end of July. Seems like an incredibly long time to wait to start A school training. Msybe our sons will be in the GM training together.
