OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Follow this link for OPSEC Guidelines:

This was put together by gigi65 (thanks!).  These are the items you will want to mail to your recruit NOW so they can hand you the answers on PIR day.  They will not know the exact answers until 1-3 days prior to graduation!

Dear (son/daugher),

Once you have your plane ticket, complete the answers below and then take it with you to PIR and hand it to us after the ceremony (don't mail it):

 Flight #___________________________

 Flight time_________________________

First destination (if more than one flight)  _____________________________________

 Time the bus leaves RTC_______________

Are you on a special "chartered flight"? ____

Why shouldn't this be mailed back?
They can mail it, but odds are they won't know the info until 2-4 days before PIR. The Navy doesn't purchase tickets for flights until that last week (they want to be sure they are going to graduate). That's also why most G&G's do Battle Stations 21 exercise first! Even if they do have the info (like my son thought he knew), it could change that last week. First he told us in a letter that the bus left for the airport at 2am on Saturday, but by the time we got to PIR, it had changed to 5am (thank goodness!). He thought he was flying out of O'Hare, but turned out to be Midway airport!
Ohhh, that makes sense! You are so helpful :)
Thank you, I'm glad you posted this information because I was sitting here stressing over how we were going to find out all his information....and he told his g/f that he was leaving for the airport at 2AM so here's hoping all that will change.
Your welcome Rob's Mom! I went nuts trying to get info on G&G's when I learned my son was leaving early. I couldn't believe there wasn't a group for this! Friends talked me into creating this group and I'm glad it is helping families like yours! Best of luck to you and your recruit.
