Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Grad and Go to A School at Great Lakes, Illinois right after P.I.R.
After PIR 1/21/11 my son moved over to his A school at Great Lakes. He was able to call me to pick him up after he was processed into his new quarters and I met him at the Visitors Center next to the main entrance to the base on Sheridan (St or Ave?) just after dark (1/21/11). Your sailor calls you on your cell and tells you when to meet them at the Visitors Center. Most people park and stay in their cars and watch for the sailors to come out the main gate heading to the Visitors Center. Then you jump out of your car and wave and yell to them
He was able to be with me in my motel Friday until Sunday. At that time I gave him his contact vosion lenses and his Iphone and Iphone cord. (I could have given him his lap top computer but he did not have one.) He could have stayed until 8 pm on Sunday but he wanted to go back at 6 pm.. So I droped him off at the Visitors center at 6 pm Sunday.
On this liberty we went to the Gurnee Mills mall...shopping, eating, saw 2 movies, laughed and had a wonderful time. There were other new sailors there with their parents too. Other moms on site say that the sailor just wanted to be with them and their families playing games or cards for the few days they were allowed.
Yes you could go where you wished for recreation, like Chicago, but the sailor must call into a base phone # they are given twice a day. My son/sailor had to call in to that specific number for roll call at 8 pm and again in the morning at 8 am each day of liberty. Failure to do so and they are AWOL and will forfit their continued liberty.

Thanks for sharing you and your sailors experience ~ my daughter will be leaving for bootcamp in a few days and she will be a grad and go also ~ so it is nice not to just go in completely blind.

Will she be a Grad and Go to Great Lakes A school or will she be flying out to another base? That Grad and Go has different information...What to do to go to the airport to be with them before they fly out!! Find out more info. If it is the latter Grad and Go find the description about that type of Grad and Go on the site. Congratulations to your sailor recruit and her bootcamp experience.

I treasure that experience at the PIR on 9/2/10. Met 5 very special mom's at the meet and great the night before at Ramada Inn.. for new PIR's don't miss the meet and greet. Grandson spent school at Great Lakes ( that time zoomed by) and now he is on a big ship in Japan. touring the world. GO NAVY...USA USA USA I love navyformoms.com PS.for new PIR's .wear comfy clothes and SHOES..and take a book to read. and water and snacks.--------- lots of walking and waiting
