My grandson leaves for Great Lakes December 4th.  So proud of him, but am already missing him...

Hello! Where is he coming from? We are in Washington State. :)
Hi Kristine.... He's coming from Springfield, Illinois. And his older brother is graduating from college in January and either going into Army or Marines! We'll have to sedate my daughter!!!! :p
Congratulations to you and your family! Will your Daughter become an empty nester?

No, Kristine, but the one leaving for Great Lakes is her "baby" and the other one is 2 years older. They've never been away from home and she's taking all this pretty hard, bless her heart.

That is hard. Our Son and Daughter in law are going through the same thing. Megan has never been away from home but she is making it and we are so proud! Sending comfort your Daughter's way!

Hi Kristine...I am a Navy grandma and couldn't be prouder.  My Navy Grandma days began almost 5 years ago when my grandson, Michael, joined the Navy.  He recently signed for another 4 years.  His Navy days have seen him through Boot Camp in Great Lakes, A School, C school and his first assignment was to Honolulu, HA, where he spent the last 2-1/2 years.  He married while in Honolulu and he and his wife are now living in Norfolk where he was just recently assigned.  They are expecting their first baby in March 2014.  I am not too active on N4Ms recently, but it was a blessing for me when Michael first enlisted.  You will meet many great people on here who will be very helpful to you, so don't be afraid to ask questions.  There is no such thing as a "bad" question.  Congratulations to your granddaughter, Megan, for choosing the U.S. Navy.  Navy grandma hugs to you, Vee

Thank you for the notes ladies! It's so good to hear from other Grandmother's! When our Granddaughter Megan announced that she would be signing up for the Navy we were shocked and awed! She is an only child and has been very sheltered. The town where she grew up had nothing to offer her and she was ready for a challenge. We are so proud of her as she is entering her 6th week of Boot Camp! Grandpa and I along with Mom and Dad will be flying to Chicago for a November 1st Graduation. Because she will be attending school at Great Lakes, we will be able to spend the weekend with her! We can hardly wait! Thank you for sharing your stories! Kristine Brown
My Grandson Logan graduates in Great Lakes on Nov 22. We are so excited! We & his Mom will be there! So very proud that he chose the Navy!
Thank You Logan for serving our country! We are awaiting the I AM A SAILOR call from my Granddaughter Megan Brown!
