Hello. My son is in boot camp, SHip 11 Div 296. Anyone out there son or daughter in the same group? ANyway my son will be doing his A school in Great Lakes. Does anyone know how much time he will get to spend with us after graduation and before A School begins? Also is there a formal graduation for us to attend from A school? Thanks

go to your page and scroll down....I left you a message with the link to your PIR (Pass In Review=graduation) group. Your PIR group will be your lifeline for info and support

He'll get the weekend for liberty will have to report back to the "ship' every evening.
Another good group for you to join is the A school at Great Lakes group..
He could also get all weekend liberty with overnights...and not have to report back until Sunday night. It all depends! He does have to call every night though.

He will get a few minutes after PIR and then have to report to A School to check in, then you will be able to go with you (whichever way it works out)....but the check in takes a couple of hours.

There is not really a formal graduation like the Boot Camp PIR because the classes are so small but you can go to the little ceremony that they have for them.

Best of Luck!
Hellp, My son did boot camp & A school in Great Lakes. He is now on a ship on the coast of Hati, then heading to Cuba. He loves it. He finished Boot camp on March 25,2010; Had graduation, then he had the weekend to spend with us. He started A School the following Monday. He had weekends free, but only had a 300 mile radius. But, He also had his weekend to do his duty watch for 24 hours. There is no graduation after A School, He was able to come home for a few days. But, some may not have much in between, if the are being sent to a place they are needed immediately. But, in A School he will be able to call home and e-mail, when not busy . But, They are kept pretty busy. He will be fine. Give me a shout if you want to talk. I know it is very hard for the first 3 months. Good Luck, Lynn
Thanks so much for the info. I am glad to hear your son likes it. My son Rob did the Navy Sea Cadets for 2 years and liked but I convinced him to go to college. Well that didnt work out and he enlisted when he came home. I look forward to his letters (only received one so far) and hope to get a call soon. I suspected there would be no graduation after A school and we would have limited time with him. What does your son do in the Navy? Did he choose to go abroad? I already booked the hotel for graduation in high hopes there will not be any delays,I would like to take my chances and book the air too. Thanks again
