HI all! I need help with telling my family what to but for our new Sailor. My son graduates this Friday and will go to Groton. This is all new to us and we are not sure what we can get him for Christmas that he can take with him to sub school.  Food gift cards? Are there any restaurant chains on base?  Clueless here!

EJ, thanks for the website link. Looks great!

msmomma - my suggestion would be a Walmart gift card.  There is one right down the street from the sub base.  He will probably buy alot of stuff he needs at the Nex and there is a Subway on base but I found that my son spent alot of time in Walmart buying things he needed that he could not get on the base.  Because their rooms are so small, my son put a small set of plastic drawers under his bed for things he wanted to store.  When I was visiting we spent quite some time trying to find just the right stuff for a small dorm room.  They supply the guys with microwaves and small refrigerators but there is no kitchen in my son's room and if the nex is closed, Walmart is there.

Thank you so much!

How exciting! This will be a fun Friday for you and your family after graduation Ceremony.

Some ideas:  Visa gift cards, American express, those that are not specifically for one restaurant/grocery store. Also, this is where they are allowed to get their 'toys', so Best Buy cards would be great for headphones, games, game consoles, etc. Also for computers. They will be there for over a year in school and awaiting class ups ACU, so they need some of those electronics. Cell phone, money for their iTunes, Nextflix accounts for movies on computers. Things like that. Oh, and I was just reminded...DOUBLE LAYERED underwear! :-)

There is a very large mall from what I hear, that has all their favorite stores, BestBuy, Banana Republic, Old Navy, all those other stores they like to go.

Congrats on your new Sailor graduating from Boot Camp and please thank him for his Service!!! God bless

Hahaha!  ProudNavyMom, now where did you get that idea???  LOL!!  Did you check out the website that EJ mentioned above?  It lists a utility tool like the ones we got for our boys.  Great minds think alike!!

mrsb, no I have not checked the website, i was afraid i would spend more money. But now i feel like checking it!! HAHAHa

I just have this feeling my Sailor will be coming way earlier than he is fessing up to :-)  He will be surprising me indeed if he does!! Better just let it happen. God's Will not mine. I can't wait till Christmas!!! I love him so much!!!

Thanks for your help!! I so appreciate it!

Black G Shock watch. I-Tune gift cards if he has an Ipod. Computer if he doesn't have one. Kindle. There is a Subway on base, the only chain I am sure of. 7 Seas Pizza is outside gate and delivers, they are very good my son says. NEX gift cards if you can get them. Game Stop gift cards for when he can get off base and get some games if he has a system.

Hi there,

This is Yolanda from Orange, calif.  Our son is in his 5th year and is out to sea as we speak.

Gift cards, there is a walmart near Gorton, Subway and Starbucks.  Also any master gift card they can use anywhere.

its cold in the winter so maybe some thermal underware, gloves.  I use prioritymail with a tracking #, its cheaper.

Please pray for our son and his crew.

Regads,

Yolanda, Orange, CA.

Good Morning Yolanda - I am praying for your son and his crew right now.  You hold down the homefront as they used to say in WWII.  Thank you to your son for his service.  Mine is finishing up school right now and he will be out there too. Merry Christmas to you and your family from all of us!

Yolanda, Wow! 5th year!!! Congratulations to you and your son!  I just said a prayer for you and your Sailor. God bless you always,

Thanks Yolanda...prayers to you and your son and crew.
